I was told to use Redline ATF in my manual......

Because the tranny is one of the older ones and so I was advised to use Redline D4 ATF or something like that.....

The guy at the shop tells me that many of the old school Camaros and Mustangs use Redline ATF because it's easier/better for their manual trannies......

Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Don't use ATF, don't use MTL, use MT 90.

Yeah I always used Royal Purple or some other hi-po brand gear oil myself.

MTL or MT90 are RedLine oils. about 7-8 bucks a quart.
Use both for manual tranny and differentials

I use Royal Purple in my engine, tranny, and in the rear. The car felt a lot smoother using the Royal Purple. The tranny shifts much smoother too.

i agree w/ turbojeff. if you want to use redline use the mt-90. the mtl is too thin for the transmission. i personally have the royal purple in the rear and am getting ready to put neo in the trans.

MT-90 too thick?? Hot dang it I've gotten so many different recommendations for what to use.......

How much thicker is the Redline MT-90 compared to the Redline MTL?

Thanks.

I just played around with this after many confusing posts about which oil. First, I tried the Redline MTL in the trans and the Redline 75-90 in the differential. Shifting was marginally better over the old oils, though 300 miles later the trans definately started feeling better. At 500 miles, I put the NEO in the trans. I would say the NEO gives a better feeling shift than the MTL, smoother between the gears with less clunk-CLUNK as the dogs release and engage between gears. Many also claim the NEO is better for our trannys than the MTL as the MTL is thinner and less able to protect against heat breakdown. Anyway, I found the NEO better in the trans than the MTL. Still have the Redline in the diff tho...

check out http://www.mazdatrix.com/q-supply.htm

$12.00 per quart. And I really hate to say it, but anyone who thinks $36 is too much to spend on their car, needs a different car (not you Dan, just a general statement I suddenly had a wild hair to pipe up with! I'm such a ********!).

Haha all good....... For my FD I try to use nothing but the best and lots of it even if I have to use it in other ways...... One example is buying extra quarts of Redline tranny oil just so that I can use it to flush out my existing tranny fluid. I wanna make sure that my tranny is completely filled with the fluid that I want and not a parial mix of this and that......

$12/quart is fine with me actually..... I'll probably end up ordering like 4 or 5 quarts so I can do the same thing like I did with Redline....... Or maybe I should try Redline MT-90 and see how that goes since I have much easier access to it than Neo......

THanks for the info man.
