I think my knock sensor and PS sensor wires switched

Ok. So I'm working on getting my new FD running right, pulled the code and it resulted in a bad knock sensor reading. I did a bunch of searching and read that it's very easy to accidently switch the PS pump sensor and knock sensor connections. I now have reason to believe that this may be a reality for my motor.

picture 1 shows the current knock sensor connection, it's a single male to a single female, both with yellow cores. i think this is wrong because i have read that it's normally a very hard connection to make... whereas this was really simple and took me 2 seconds to disconnect. the one on the right is the male that goes to the knock sensor and the one on the left is the female and what the knock sensor is plugged into.

picture 2 shows where i suspect the male in picture 1 should be connected to instead. the other reason i have doubts is becuase it's core is not yellow and it would seem to be a very long stretch... but maybe that's why people say it's so hard?

picture 3 shows what i think the previous owner may have mistakenly butt spliced together. he connected that wire to the little nipple (for lack of better words) on top of the PS pump.

am i on to something?

I know if you flip through the FSM there's a way to check your knock sensor by jumping a couple wires in your diagnostic box with a meter, and tapping on the UIM with a happer to get a reading. I don't remember the exact procedure, and am not where I can look it up for you, but it's worth checking because I remember it was really easy, and might save you some headache.

that would be so awesome. just basically check if the two connectors in pic 1 are connected... if they aren't double check that the knock sensor goes to the one pictured in 2...

in the picture above, the one in my hand is the knock sensor male connector... it goes straight to the knock sensor. i ended up plugging that into the empty connector in the second picture i posted. the knock sensor code cleared... sweet. but now i've got the empty female connector in the picture above and no male to go along with it! you said that female is definately for the PS pump... would that go to the pressure sensor on top or fluid level sensor on bottom....?

Perfect example of why pictures should be embedded in your post.

Five years later, the picture would still be useful, but sadly, not available
