Unhappy I think my days are numbered

*sigh* I typed all this up once lol and it expired??!!

I have had my FD for almost 5 years now and I think it is time for me to let it go. I have thought about it for a while now and figure if I can get the courage to post here and NOT get talked out of it then I guess it is time to sell. I got married about a year and a half ago and I need to get a sedan for her and a truck or something for me I have never owned a car this long or loved one so much! What kind of a sedan can I get that is as fast, sexy, sporty, and fun to drive as an FD for under 30k??

Anyone else go through this or going through it?? Anyone sell there car on the net before? I have no idea where to post even I guess I would prefer to have a true enthusiast buy it rather than some punk that wont appreciate it. I even have the "out of print" book about RX-7's to go with the car. The car has been sitting in the garage since July and it seems silly to have it just sit there. *sigh*

I advise getting an infinity g35 sedan w/ AWD. Very practical fun reliable all year round luxurious car. But I don't think its <30K. Damn.

Well, were your years with the FD good? Take lots of pictures to reminisce over? Every time I come across someone online who *used* to own one, they express some regret.

Well before my son was born I was stressing over what type of proper car I should get. But I stressed even more thinking of not owning my FD.
So I decided to keep it and just use the moms car as the family transport.
My son is a month and half old and looking back Im really glad I didnt give into to the thinking of me needing a different car. We've made it work.

Now if I can keep from moddding it.

Oh and since when does G35's come AWD???

I can't believe someone else didn't already say it, Get an RX-8!

Is the 7 payed for? If so why not just keep it. You could find a nice used civic or accord for the daily and keep the 7 for when you want to have fun.

Very recently. Its now available. Cool eh?

I think thats a good platform for some frankensteining. Its basically a 350Z engine with AWD.... you could make a pretty sweet car.

Keep the FD if payed for and take on a cheap payment. Hell the Mazda 3 starts at 15k brand new and for a econo car they look good. I will bet some nice aftermarket stuff will be coming soon for the 3.

SVT Squasher is giving great advice. That 3 is a sweet car for the money and good for family stuff.
If you have to sell for whatever reason and get a 30K car there are 4 choices IMO; the 8, the G35 sedan or coupe, the STI or the Evo. See my sig and guess what I chose. Rotary power of course and I love it.
I still say go with the cheaper car and keep the 7. There seems to a lack of good FD owners (or maybe I mean too many kids who wreck em) and it would be a shame to lose another who has held the car for 5 years.

I would suggest keeping it and getting an older Accord. But if you never drive it and it's just $15k collecting dust, you may as well sell it to someone who can enjoy it fully.

I know you said sedan but damn the G35 coupe is awesome!

Its not just 15k sitting there. Its a investement to. There are so few left and its going to be getting harder and harder to come by a FD. Dude keep it or you will regret it later.

if you sell it here (rx7club), i bet it will be hard to get what you think its worth. but if you sell it to the punk that wont appreciate it, i believe you will get the money you want for it.

Wow thanks guys. I have thought about this for a year or so, my father-in-law said that "its ok to have now, but in a year or so!!" hehe, not that he controls me but....it does make some sense. I still owe about $7000 or so on it, but I could just pay it off. I have thought about the STI and EVO I have a friend who has a 350Z and he likes it so the infinity might not be bad either. I already have two "beaters" my wife and I drive to work and on rainy days. It just seems a waste to have it sitting there to me. Plus I got frustrated because I put $1200 into it in July to pass DEQ and well....its a log story that ends in it being to loud now lol and all I need to do is put a new muffler on it, but after that $1200 I was kind of tired of feeling like I was throwing money at it.

I can't tell you how fun it is to drive it....uh wait you guys know already hehe. Its a red touring edition with stock chrome wheels and an R1 spoiler so it gets a lot of attention when I drive it anywhere. In fact I took my friend for a spin in it July 4th and got pulled over (52 in a 35 ) the officer was VERY cool and had noticed I was going the speed limit then in a second I was going 52 then back down lol (showing the turbo effect to my friend) so he let me off. He didn't believe it was a 93 and actually checked the VIN lol. Its odd to me how many people don't believe its 93....I mean was this body style THAT far ahead of its time?

Well I am going to take about a month to look around and in the mean time fix some little things with the car (like a new muffler) and figure out what I am going to do, but it looks almost certain I will have to sell. The equity might make the difference of an STI,EVO or some blah econo sedan lol NOOOOOOOOO

*OBTW I will check out the Mazda3, I have been impressed with the looks of the new Mazda's oh yeah and the RX8 Nice to hear a good review on them, I have been wondering how they are*

I agree here. And FWIW: The 3 Is based off of the same chassis and such as the ford focus.( Since Ford and Mazda share parts bins.) Sooo., I would think some of the Focus performance parts should work rather easily.( Fitment problems aside ) Personally, I would go STI or Evo.( Already turboedis my reasoning here. Although, I think the STI has a bit much going on visually)

A couple questions..

1. Why do YOU need to get HER a sedan?

2. Do you REALLY need to put another gas-guzzling daily driven truck on the road?

3. Why is it when people get married, they trade in their nuts? You had the car before you got married, now you keep the ******* car - it's your car. If she needs a sedan, and she has a job - then perhaps she should start saving up.

you could always keep it and just store it or something. Just register it as PNO until you want to drive it again.

STI and Evo are some good sedans for around that price range, but IMO you should keep the car, because it's likely you'll regret selling it.

I will never sell my RX-7. Have you ever been to a classic car show? I've talked to so many people (a few family members also) who reminisce about the great cars they USED TO OWN. You can tell that they would have never gotten rid of them if they had known that they would be such a collector's item, so sought after and valuable today.

Even if for some reason the RX-7 doesn't become a classic to the uneducated masses, it will always be a legend among enthusiasts.

That is why I will never sell my RX-7.

You should think about a 8. I have a FD and a 8. All I can say is that its a awesome car to drive. Fun, and quick, but realy much more senseable. If you come to a RPNW meeting, I'm shure somone would give you a ride in their 8. CJ

When you want another sports car someday, you are going to have to spend 30-50K on something you dont even like as much as the Rx-7, as a result you will never get one. Much better to get your wife whatever she wants and then you just get a 3-5 year old accord or 3-5 year old truck.

____________________________________________

1) I want her to have a safer car than the one she has now and that will run for a long time.

2)No I said "Or something like that" I haven't decided what I want. I may get an R1 or Ducatti for me.....then again it is Oregon......

3)People that are HAPPILY married make choices together. An RX-7 isn't THAT practical lol I mean I go to the grocery store with her and we can barely fit in. If you want you can come over and see I still have my nuts She is a housewife, I make enough that she can work on remodeling our house (she is an architect). The problem is when I have a car SITTING in the garage that I could sell and use money to get a car that is very nice instead of a $15000 car.

I'm sorry your outlook on relationships is not a good one, but that doens't mean you need to try to bash someone who is happy lol . My wife is incredible and SHE is not the one who suggested it nor does she really want me to get rid of it (she likes the turbo feel lol). Anyway I am going to test drive the STI and Evo along with the RX-8 this week and try to decide which route makes most sense.

If you sell that RX-7 and you will seriously regret it.

It's not that my outlook on relationships is "not a good one" it's that I expect shared and equal behaviour.

If I had a girlfriend/wife who was an architect, I would personally be pushing for her to work on the long-term goal of establishing her own firm.

PDX, good for you. A car is only a object, and can be replaced. Put the family first, and get a Rx-8. I've been at the place where most of these guys are...don't want to sell your baby...but I'm currently at your point in life. Where the car is 2nd, 3rd or even a last priority. Later, CJ
