i think the engine took a dump

put my engine back in 2 weeks ago, running great, i have a garret single, 3 in DP and exhuast, for the last 500 Mi it was runnng great,,stockECU, 5PSI , untill last night, The FD lived up to its name... ****** Disaster
i was cruisin with my GF and she wanted to go fast,, she was in luck,, haha, i wound out 3rd and clicked 4th and was going around 140ish +- MPH. when i let off from that i noticed the idle down was way rough and it sounded wierd, i punched with the clutch in and it barely revved out,
it died and i coasted to the nearest bright light and looked under the hood. all vac lines were on, MAP was connected, plug wires were on, everything was fine. Now its a bitch to start, makes 0 boost, runs like its pulling a semi trailer (no power), backfires when it feels like it (no cat), wont hold an idle unless i constantly tap the gas, and smokes like a hog. (blue smoke)
Does this sound like characteristics of a blown engine? from what ive read, it does.
Shoulda went with the V8 swap......

Do you also jump off tall buildings with only an umbrella as a parachute?

Nah man. Don't blame the motor. The problem is somewhere along the way someone told you it was ok to run with the set up you are/were running with. I went through 2 years of the worst crap you could ever come up with, and most of it could have been averted with some decent, and honest advice.
I'm sorry, it's an expensive lesson to learn, and i'm afraid I learned the same exact lesson as you did.
I'll put it this way, if I had it all over to do again, I would get an ECU to run the car correctly first, that way you're covered for anything you want to do in the future.
It should be your first purchase(other than a new motor).
Sorry again.

There is a little harness and plug against the firewall. I had problems with me previous fd when that came unpluged. Its very small and the car would idle very crappy and would make no boost.. just start backfiring. Just an idea.

yeah, i had many people say at low low boost on stock ECU i would be Fine... o well, ill check for that plug by the firewall, not sure where to look, but ill probe the whole area.
Then im going to do a comression test, that will tell me all i need to know, im sure.
Garret GT 66 BB single turbo, mani,HKS race gate, and 3 in DP with 2000mi will be for sale shortly! IM gonna sell that to afford an engine and ill buy some ******* twins to bomb back on there so it runs for the most part. Ill just put it all back to stock and use it as a cruiser.

the thing he's talking about is the map sensor, driverside firewall. Something you said you already checked. Sounds like a toasted engine due to the stock ecu, even at 5 psi, can't tell that 5 psi on a single flows more air than 5 psi on twins so it ran lean and popped on ya. Shoot the dumbass who said you could get away with it.

I didn't get to say this yesterday, but I don't think you should go back to the twins. First of all, the car is much simpler with the single. It's also much better heat wise.
You've already put the expense into the parts, and labor of making the car a single. Those are your biggest expenses. Just get a reman(you can get those for decent money), and run it with a new ECU.
Getting used twins is almost never worth it. I've gotten them twice, and been screwed each time. That's bad money spent.
Have some patience(if you don't need the car right away), build up some funds, and spend good money.

Keep the single, get a standalone ECU tuned, and don't take advice from those guys anymore that said it was ok to run it with a stock ECU.

Hey, sounds very familiar...I'm in the same boat. I cruised into town at 60, tapped the break to kick off the cruise control and the tack fell to "0". Couldn't start it and when I finally did all I got was raw fuel smoke from the exhaust and not enough power to move the car. I got 40k on the two primary coils but the other one wouldn't spark 20k, (also got old plugs). Anyway, I'm thinking I have the ignition side of things. Both of us could be bad ignition or motor... let you know what I find out

Good analogy. I agree with all the homies up above. Spring for a reman and power fc and deal with the mastercard guys. Going back to the stockers isn't a good idea, although with stock twins an FD isn't exactly a cruiser--still a force to be reckoned with.

Sounds exactly like what happened to my engine. Very sorry to hear it man, you're looking at a lot of money here to replace it (like more than the single turbo was!)

But stick with a rotary, let the 7 live up to its name. That way when you smoke the hell out of a vette, you can say "and i've only got 1.3 liters"
