I really need help

Here is the story.. i want to buy a 3rd gen rx-7 but don't want to deal with the mainaince issues of the engine i read that a 20b is a lot stronger and doesn't have the same issues. How much are they and where can i find one.
2. is there anything else that can be done that will not make me half to swap my motor every 50,000 miles?
3. also any good links for parts and info would be great!
and would you guys pick a
rx-7 TT
over a 300zxTT
and for what reasons

we would pick an rx-7 over a 300zx because the rx-7 blows it's *** out of the water. The rx-7 is not for you if you don't wanna do maintenance and stuff like that. Oh and FYI a 20hb swap will cost as much if not more in labor than atleast 2 13b's would cost TOTAL. If you don't want it to break, take care of it, pamper it.

Fluidyne anyone?

Any high mileage turbo car is going to have problems eventually. Tubros fail, that's just a fact.

As for the 20b swap, you better have around $20,000 laying around to get it done.

If maintainence is going to be a issue for you, I would suggest you look for a sporty non-turbo charged car.

get a honda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha. no really, im always happy to welcome someone new to the world of rotaries. for real man, READ, READ, READ! ! ! ! this forum is a wealth of knowledge. research it as much as possible. do not get an rx-7 blindly. that is where mistake number one would be made. take everyones suggestions into consideration and then make your decision. this is not a poot-n-scoot around town car at all. this car will end up being your life!!! haha.

if you take care of your car you wont swap the motor every 50k miles. my stock motor has 90k on it and its still running pretty strong. if you take care of the car itll take care of you!!!! . . . . rx-7's just take a little more care. . . . but when you think about it, they give a whole lot more back. its a "cult classic" man. youll learn to love it.

AND YES, THE RX-7 WILL FLAT OUT TAKE A 300Z'S **** VIRGINITY!!!!

20b conversion will cost you $35k if you don't do any of the work yourself and take it to pettit. Furthermore, 13b-rew's last longer than 50k if you take care of them. I know a bunch of people who have made it past 100k on the ORIGINAL motor. You are trusting too much in hearsay (sp?) and not in finding the truth. Just buy a schwin if you don't want to have to worry about maintaining a vehicle because every vehicle requires it! Good luck

It's a great car to buy as long as you're mechanically inclined. Watch your fluids, watch your gauges, don't drive like an idiot all the time

Keep the car stock other than the reliabity mods. You should see close to 100k or more. Also, even if an engine lasts only 80k, for most people that would be 8-10 years of ownership. That hardly could be considered replacing it all the time.

I got my first Rx about 10 years ago, an 85 GSL-SE ( should NEVER have sold that car ). That was all it took & I was addicted. Since then I have had an 83 & an 86. I had wanted an FD since they first came out & was finally able to pick one up about 2 months ago. This car is everything I expected it would be and more. At 68K the car runs fantastic & will still scare the crap out of me on occasion. Anyway, enough babbling, if I were you I would ask myself if I have the brains & self confidence to deal with problems should they arise. Getting my feet wet with first & second generations was heplful, maybe you should do the same. If you're still interested after that, there will still be FD's around.

I see in your profile that you already own a 300zxtt, if so you probably already got beat by an RX-7 or two. Sooo are you thinking of switching now?? Tom

I didn't get beat :-)

I already own a 300zx and truth is that i actually beat almost all of the 2nd and 3rd gen rx-7's that i race in a straight line., but i will be the first to say that cornering i have nothing on them! I am actually looking to buy a project car and was wondering if i should get another TT 300zx or an rx-7
