I Need Some Advice Here!!!

Hello All!..........( Sorry its a bit long winded)

Thank God! I found this site. I just joined today and Im hoping some of you can gimme some advice.

I want this car BAD! I have approx. 3 prospects of all different conditions and prices. And Im not sure which way I shld go.

I caught this bug AGAIN 2 weeks ago coming home from my Sunday morning ride. I saw a '93 Montego Blue w/ 48k miles in pretty damn good condition for $19,900.....
Well until this day, I didnt have the car thing in my head for a loooong time and now its back. Since that day Ive been looking online for other deals AND any info pertaining to this car that wld help me make a decision. As for the deal above I talked him down to $18500 which I think is still high. The thing I liked about this guy is he was older and seemed to take good care of it. The car had just been modded in the past yr w/ an HKS(i think) powerflo, cat back exhaust AND a modified stock ECU. He claims the ECU sets the boost at 12 psi now.

Now before I go any further I gotta mention that since Ive been researching this car. Ive noticed an overwhelming amount of these cars w/ either rebuilt or new motors!!!!!!!! What gives?
Ive always thought Mazda put together a reliable motor here...am I wrong? w/ NO BS I cld swear atleast 30-40% of the cars Ive come across online have new motors and/or turbos. I gotta admit that makes me a lil uneasy as to whether or not I shld buy this car altogether.

Can someone set me straight on what its like to own this car? Its quirks, things to do, not to do, possibly any tips to investigate when looking at these cars, is it worth the purchase???

In light of the facts Ive encountered to date, Im NOW leaning towards finding an RX7 thats in good condition inside and out w/ high mileage if need be w/ a LOW price. I found two so far. One for $10k has 102k miles but he claims its in decent condition inside and out, no severe problems in the 2 yrs hes had it, and it runs strong, doesnt leak fluids, no smoke, a few dings no dents. Problem here is he lives 700 miles away.

The other is only 250 miles away, asking $12.5k, approx 85k miles and he basically says the same as above as for the condition of the car.

Somethng like these cars I wldnt be as PO'ed IF the motor took a dump in my driveway after a few weeks or months of ownership. And Im hoping thats a big IF.

ANY AND ALL GUIDANCE/INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

As Im also looking at another 93 for approx $17.5k w/ a new mazdaspeedclutch, turbotimer, new paint job, downpipe, new wheels/tires, synchros, new stereo too and claims its motor, turbo, and trans is running strong. Sounds like he took good care of it in the short time he owned it.

NEED HELP!!!!!!

HEY while Im at it, I own a '00 RC51 and a '01R6 both in EXCELLANT condition, Im seeking to sell one of them........possibly a trade+ cash for a car.........ANY TAKERS?

Wow, your post is extremely long. One of the best things to do is use the "Search" feature from this forum. This question gets asked so many times and some of the members get tired of answering them. Anyway, here is what you should definitely do before purchasing a car

1) Compression Test. This will tell you the health of the engine and it only cost $40. Make sure to have it done at a Rotary specialist or by a Mazda Dealership, it can't be done anywhere else.

2) Make sure to attach a boost gauge before buying the car. It's pretty simply and make sure you see 10-8-10.

3) Have a Mazda Dealership or a Rotary shop check out the car for any problems.

4) Stop by a Body shop to let them see if the car had some work done.

5) Run the vin # using a carfax. This will let you know if they have any type of record of the car from some type of damage, etc., Also, if you have the vin # post it up on the Lounge or 3rd gen Section, I'm sure one of the members will run the vin # for you.

There is nothing wrong with having an engine replaced. Just think about it, it's like having a brand new car. Also, most of them needs to be replaced because a lot of owners don't understand how to properly upgrade the RX-7. Also, taking it to your stupid Mazda Dealership is one of the worst things to do, because they have no clue about these cars. Good luck

I bought mine used (lease car) @ 49,000 miles......now I have 116,000 miles, (rebuilt @ 114,000). It's like a brand new car!
I've repainted, rebuilt engine & turbos, modded intake, down & catback...the fastest way to more HP in a rotary is get cold air in and get the hot air out.....My engine was fine @ 114,000 miles (w/a slight oil leak) but decided to rebuild when my clutch went out.

Gotta Love it! Have Fun!
