I Need More Power From My Fd. What Should I Buy?

I have owned my fd for about 4 months now, its had a few problems but after a bit of tlc and some hours under the bonnet its running fine.

I was on my way back from having my new wheels fitted and I had my mate behind me in his impreza WRX so I thought, I will show you. We both floored it all the way up to 140mph but I could not shake him of my tail, there was nothing in it and I was devastated. I need my fd to be quicker. WHAT DO I BUY?

Current mods:
HKS hard pipe kit
HKS super suction air filter kit
Blitz nur spec exhaust silencer
Blitz dump valve
magnor HT leads
I have changed almost every vacuum pipe with new ones

best way to start would be apexi power FC,,,, it would safe up the mods you have added to your engine ,,, allow you to run a few more lbs of boost and a good tune all round would release plenty more horsepower

get the power fc first as you can do your boost though them and a whole lot more, then down the track when you got more $ do your full exhaust,

Just a little for 2500US

With Power FC and New Turbo. You've got little room for more. You are running the dstock turbo's, right?
3" full Exhaust

im running the stock turbos. I am going to buy the rest of the 3" exhaust sytem to match my blitz silencer. I have been told that if you yake your cats out that you have to make it run richer buy putting an electronic boost controler on.

get the pfc (power fc) about £400-450 then get it mapped. Its gonna cost about £300 to get this done. You can buy the pfc, plug it in and drive away, but to get the most, you need it mapping properley. Take it to a rotary specialist only and NOBODY ELSE I MEAN IT MAN!! There are plenty in the uk. Where are you based? im in the uk also. Get onto www.mazdarotaryclub.com and www.fduk.org for more local info

**** man dont go there!!! there are horrror stories on mrc (mazda rotary club) about **** workmanship and **** customer service. Goto wgt, i bet you will get gold class service. Gurj (GSB876) highly reccommends them and he lives in derby.

I took this bit of info off mrc...

"Had my first visit to WGT last friday after realising from past experience and agreeing with Scooby Si that Hurley engineering left me some what unimpressed. WGT on the other hand were excellent, very professional and organised. Pip installed me a Apexi fc controller ecu and fitted me a de-cat exhaust system which left me driving away with a totally different car. Any one out there who still has the cat and standered ecu fitted should consider these mods.... simple to do yet excellent proformance results"

thread is here http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forum...ghlight=hurley

i've never been to wgt. They are about 80 miles from me,ibut they are still getting my custom. I have never heard any bad reputations about them.Hurley is much closer, but after the numerous horror stories over the last 2 years, they can **** themselves. From what i have heard about wgt is that they are so busy, there is usually a waiting list of around 3 weeks but it's still best to phone them and make sure. see you on fduk and mrc

You don't need a PFC yet....

Based on your budget and level of mods I would hold off on buying the PFC, for now...you don't need it yet. Get it later.

You could buy a PFC now, but with your mods(intake and exhaust on a stock ported motor) you wont get much of a horse power gain. You should get it tuned after each flow mod and I'm guessiing that you will be adding more mods. That's expensive at $3-400 per tuning session. Or you can buy a datalogit($380) and a Wideband ($425) and street tune the car yourself, assuming that you already have a laptop.

Here's what I did:

You can buy a a rechipped ECU like an M2 Stage III ECU or a Pettit ECU. These rechipped (non-programmable) ECU's can be purchased used for around $400 and then be RESOLD for $400 when you upgrade to a PFC.

You can run an M2 ECU($400), add a Hiflow catz($350), HKS Twin power ignition amp($400), Stock mount intercooler ($400-1000) and turn up the boost to 13-14 psi. This should get you close to 300+ rwhp. (used part prices) I ran this exact set-up until I had my motor rebuilt, due to a front cover oil leak, and street ported.

The porting required bigger injectors and a programmable ECU to adjust the timing for the enlarged ports. That's when I upgraded to the PFC, WB & datalogit. I also sold the M2 ECU for $450.

I hope this helps.

~ John
