I need help. I am a newb

Hey guys. I really enjoy seeing all of your awesome Rx-7's. I am only 15 but i am very serious about buying an Rx-7. I plan to work really hard and try to earn money to buy one. I live in Hawaii and there are only about 9 Fd's on the whole island. I haven't really had a chance to talk to anyone who has any experience with these cars and my hopes of finding one for sale here are very slim. The best way i have found so far is to hopefully find one on ebay for around 10k but is there a better way? and what should i look for in an Rx-7 and things to expect that have gone wrong with the car? I know you guys are very experienced with these cars and please respond with any sort of info that will be helpful. Thanks for helping my dream come true and i look forward to owning and learning about a machine as bad as the Rx7.

right, what island? cuz i know there isnt even one FD on the island of Kauai..... well there wasnt the last time i checked.... but yeah, your best bet is prolly buying one from the states and than paying a shipping freight fee to get it to the islands.....

"and what should i look for in an Rx-7 and things to expect that have gone wrong with the car"

also use the search button that question has been asked numerous times

Im also looking to buy an rx-7, well have been for 2 years.

Word of advice if you think you are just going to drop 10 grand on a 7 and be done with it you are mistaken. The problem with 10k cars is that most of the time you get what you pay for, and end up paying more in the end.
Look at it this way you pay 10k for the car plus another grand for shipping. First off you HAVE to get reliability mods which can run you a grand or more. Then if the motor blows which is likely for a 10k car then you are looking at 2k if its really severe, thats if you do the work. Then the clutch can go which can be 300-600. If the turbos need rebuilding then you are looking 300 if you do them, or 800 if you send them out. If the paint is bad your looking at another grand to 2 grand for a good paint job that will stand up to the hawaii conditions.

So you could pay 11k for the car but wind up with 6k or more in just stuff to get it running or looking good.

The bad thing about buying a car on ebay is that you have to go all the way to the owners location just to look at the car, and you really dont want to just look at pictures of the car and judge by that.

My advice to you is to wait 2 years until you have a good 18k saved up and can afford to really pay for this car. You will read alot of posts were the members refer to the 7 as a money pit. This car is also alot to handle, there have been a couple kids with 7's who recked them because they couldnt handle the power.

My post is not meant to critisize or insult, its just i wanted this car at 16 but waited till i had the money. Dude if you feel you have the cash and the mechanical skills to handle this car then go for it. There are alot of great people on this board willing to help you.

Justroln, Whoa now..Dont make it seem so gloom. Dont make the kid decide not to get an RX7..He seems to have good intentions (not a ricer) I do agree though, 10k wouldnt do too well, But I have seem damn nice RX7s here where i live, Florida, For around 14000. One I saw today on autotrader.com, Has like..60 - 70k miles, Owned by a 65 year old man, Original Owner, oil changed every 3k..Like probably perfect condition, Completely stock. Id like to get it, But i doubt itd be around in July. The reliability mods are needed, just dont drive too stupid and take care of it..You wont have too many problems if you have a good mechanic or know what you yourself are doing Newguy.

Justroln's right. The reason there are so many trashed out, cheap FDs is because young kids buy them and can't afford to take care of them (or simply don't). This is not an insult, it's just a fact. I know I sure could have never afforded this car back while I was going to school....of course it was brand new then.

There is more to replace/fix on a 10 year old car than just the motor.

And it's easy to make a car look good just long enough to sell.
