I just did the fan mod!
Hey guys i just did the fan mod, took me about 2 hours with me being extremly cautious the whole time. (could easily take 1/2 that time or less). I rigged up two switches next to the rear defroster, white for low, red for medium speed looks very clean, very mysterious to someone who doesntknow what the switches do, and its a very easy mod. Here is the how-to...
http://rx7.voodoobox.net/howto/fanswitch/fanswitch.html
total cost was less than 15 dollars, 3 for each switch, like 5 for the wire, and 2 for the connectors.
anyway im done now.

edit: i drilled holes into the fake switches!

don't race, don't need to
I did this fan mod as well. I use a single three position switch from digi-key. The forward position is low speed, the rear position is medium speed (makes the alt belt squeek a little, big power there!), and the middle position is off. It's a small black switch that I put into the middle position on the center console. Looks good. Anyone want pics?
anyone?
anyone?

i still don't know why you really need the fan mod...was mazda that incomptent (spelling?) to make the fans on turn at too high a temp? i asked a while back if the later models in japan had the fan temp set lower on the ecu and i think somebody said no. so after several years mazda still hasn't turned down the temp, so why are we so worried about it?

(this is not brain surgery, its just grounding 1 or 2 wires/relays)

i used two switches like the instructions said. One is for low speed, the other is for medium speed, if high speed is ever wanted im 99% sure that the medium speed + the a/c = high speed. Its really straightforward as far as mods go and the hardest part was prolly getting the wires connected to the switches, which really wasnt bad.

I got mine here:
http://dkc3.digikey.com/PDF/T023/V5/0761.pdf
part # EG1539ND. The way it wires up, I ground the center of the three conectors on each side (two rows as this is DPDT (double pole double throw)), set the low speed relay to both connectors on one side, and the medium relay to the connector on the other side. Note that I only get medium speed with the ignition set to run.
LOVE IT.
