Unhappy i hate my life--crashed FD

yup so last nite my worst fear becomes reality. came around a corner and had to split second dodge a huge pothole and overcorrected when my rear slid out and sideswiped a parked car. for all the dam damage and headache, i shoulda hit the dam pothole. scraped down the whole drivers side of my car and crumpled the rear fender.

on a positive note their is no structural damage that i can see of, just body damage. i assesed it and realized that i can fix everything except for the rear fender. its pretty crumpled, but the door sill is still fine. This car has extremely low mileage and is/was in amazing shape so im gonna fix it.

just need some info if its doable, turbojeff i know your out their somewhere.

I don't know how much body work costs in Canada, but that rear quarter panel is probably a $3-$4k job. The door is probably another $1k. Not enough to total the car.

I'd say it would take at least a couple grand to get that fixed up.

Sorry about your accident

Ive seen (and fixed) much worse damage...will cost a bit to put right, but its totally repairable. Just get it checked out to make sure nothing structural has been affected.

"overcorrected" how fast were u going?
I think there is more damage there, then that JDM is worth.

not as fast as you would think. again there is no structural damage just body damage, the rear quarter just folded flat and makes it look worse than it really was.

i still hate my life though

jesus christ!! I wouldnt want to be the body man who fixes that! your better off trying to find a wrecked car and trying to get the quarter panel off of that.

Dude, dont get down on yourself. As you get older you will learn it is just a car. Yes we are passionate about our cars but dont beat yourself up over it. You walked away from it and I promise there are plenty of fds left out there to scoop up that need good homes. That car is fixable but it will likely be totaled if the damage is above $5k which is looks like it will be close to that.

If you can find the parts used it shouldn' cost too much to fix.

I could sell you the rear quarter and the door cheap but shipping to Canada would not be practical. I even have them in VR

Best of luck getting her back on the road

Just a car and its fixable. Important thing is that you are ok. Things could always have been worse for you and the car.

You'll be surprised what the body shops can do these days.

My advice would be to just take a few days away from it.

Grin and Bear it.

Get a few estimates. I've seen a lot of people in the FD Section selling rollers and parts. So I'm sure you'll come out fine when it's all said and done.

I'm glad you were'nt hurt. That's what matters.

Replacement quarter panels aren't that expensive even from Mazda. To fix it properly you'll have to have the old one cut out and the new one welded in, replace the door (or door skin) and get it repainted. You're looking at about $4-6k USD in labor there, but it's not the end of the world.

Too bad you dont live around here. In Mexico that would cost you around 1K out the door.

is the car insured?

a couple days ago the minister of transport in quebec issued notice to inspection centers to remove all incoming rhd vehicles, which they are to inspect, from the road.
This came with zero public notice, discussion, or as yet, justifying data.
This 'temporary' ban is in effect for 180 days. To allow for assessment of 'impact on public safety'. Quebec is being guinea pigged to test public reaction to unjustified nation-wide banning of all RHD vehicles (publicly owned only, government owned RHD are somehow exempt. I guess government rhd is much safer than public rhd? the hell?)
The notice states that currently registered cars are not banned, However if anybody gets a nice random VI, they're SOL.

translated notice;

TO: Service Centers
License agents and registration
Direction des relations avec la clientèle
Services for Business
Services for Individuals

FROM: xxxxxxxxxxxx

SENT DATE: April 28, 2009

SUBJECT: Registration

Since under the procedures, you must require a certificate of mechanical inspection line when the first registration allowing traffic on public roads and that the mechanical inspection agent will refuse to carry out the investigation for these vehicles no registration to access will not be issued (certificate of temporary registration plate or allowing traffic on public roads). The only registration will be permitted without use (Sutil) as laid down in procedures and to use "off road".

We remind you that the generality 2.07.020.E (appendix) provides a certificate of mechanical inspection line should be required to issue a temporary registration certificate for a vehicle from outside Quebec.

Traders will be informed by letter that as of 29 April 2009, they can not issue a temporary certificate or affix a removable plate on a vehicle with a driving position to the right unless it is registered to the system before April 29 2009.

Comments:
The Ministerial Decree specifies that all interested parties may send comments to the Société de l'assurance automobile du Quebec, 333, boulevard Jean-Lesage, C-4-21, CP 19600, Québec (Québec) G1K 8J6 within 90 days its publication in the Gazette officielle du Québec. i saw that, i believe thats for quebec only. also i could technically still drive my car as nothing is unsafe or falling off. also i thought that since my car has bin in canada for awhile now and has passed all inspections and is 100% legal and insured - they cant do much.
