I doused my FD with gasoline!!!!

Just here to VENT!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I'm on my way to Northern Va to do a week long job ( I live in Southeast Va.). I figure good long 3 hour drive, I'll clean out the injectors. So I stop at an auto parts store to get some Redline SI-1 . Next stop is a gas station to put in the Redline and top off the gas tank. I pour in the Redline. Stick in my credit card in the pump, pull out the gas pump, and hit the Premium gas button. Didn't notice that someone had locked the pump handle to OPEN and gas quickly shot ALL OVER THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW, DOOR AND MIRROR!!!!!! So for just a second I'm shocked, I point the hose away from the car and unlock it. I take a second and start pumping gas in the tank. After I top off the tank, I decide I'm too far away from home to wash the car AGAIN( just washed it yesterday) and drive 30 seconds down the street to a gas station with a carwash. Spend seven bucks on the "Utimate" wash. And I hate the gas station wash machines cause I know how crappy they treat cars, but what choice do I have. I really wanted to get the gas off the car. So I go through the wash. I wanted to cry because of the way the wash was "beating" my baby.

I'm just thankful for the fact that I closed my window, normally I leave it open, if I had, I would have had a quart of gas all over the interior of my car.

After all this, what should I watch out for? Could any left over gas residue eat away at the plastic pieces on the driver side door or the door seals? Though I've already "washed" it, can I do anything more to get rid of any residue??

Oh yeah, I'm definately going to rewax the car next weekend if not sooner.

I'd imagine the wash you put it through will be sufficient.

The gas evaporates very quickly. I would say you have very little to worry about, expecially after a car wash.

The wax is probably gone. Just a good wash and wax next time you have a chance.

when you drove down the road it probably dried the 'gas' residue on your cars plastic seals

btw...waxing WILL NOT get rid of the "residue". what you need is a good wash (go to autopia and search 2 bucket method) with car wash soap and sheep skin mitt. clay, polish (just in case), wax wax wax! woot! omg you wont believe how the FD will look after autopia ambushes your brain and detailing will get you addicted (probably a little crazy too).

btw door seals/plastic: for door seals try some woolite (yeahh...i said WOOLITE) 10:1 ratio (10 parts water 1 parts woolite) and start scyrbbing your plastic/rubber seals. after that try Mr.clean magic eraser (not the rough one. use only the white one). DO NOT apply a lot of pressure on the eraser and only soak it with very very little water (not too dry though) because too much will leave nasty residue and too little will also leave residue. so use light pressure and wipe the plastic after with a damp towel. also conditionthe plastic parts after including the seals just to make sure the gas didnt dry it out. DO NOT use armor all crap. try megs or 303 if you guys have it at your auto parts stores.

Like leaving salt-shaker caps loose some tool was probably being cute or making an "pwned" video from afar. I'm going to check the lever now on but in Cali the pump will not dispense without a tight rubber seal to the filler neck. Sorry you had to learn the hard-way.

That's EXACTLY what I think. Someone did it on purpose. Thanks for all the advice guys. Like I said, I didn't want to take it to the gas station carwash, but that was my only choice. If my car didn't already need a paint job and I had more time, I wouldn't have done it. So far the car looks fine except the black trim above the driveside door opening has turned a bit gray, like it was oxidized. I'll pick up some stuff tomorrow to try to get the color back.

Forget all that... You ran it through a car wash. You're all set.

Like I said.. Forget all that. A wash and wax and you're all set. Myself and a lot of people, while at the pump, drip gas on the paint they pull the pump out of the tank. I've never had to do such extensive detailing, and my paint looks fine. We're also talking about this happening once a week..

At least the windows were up!

It'll be alright just clean it good. Remember it is just a car, they are all going to get gas on them sometime.
