alright, well why dont u guys just avoid this post then, and not write anything? I mean sure, like I was saying, its really not a big deal changing the sound, but why not experiment?

i cant agree more. but you know what... this is cracking me up that this is an actual discussion and these guys are serious... no rules were broken, so i am leaving it open. i seriously take this 3rd gen section as a joke anymore... (for the most part) it is very sad.

Yeah I guess you are right, it should stay open, if this is all they have to "experiment" with then they most likely wouldnt understand half of the technical information that is alot more beneficial to their cars on this forum anyways, they need to play too!!! haha

ahh jeez. I guess I had that commin'. However, I actually have been doing quite a bit of research, and have been learning about what is involved in making the car perform, but in my situation, actually run properly. It's no fun, trying to fix a coolant problem for example, spending all kinds of time researching, asking, emptying my pockets, and still having no luck with it (taken it to the dealer, my mech and no one can seem to figure it out, I think my O-Rings are on their last limbs). So, messin around with a BOV is just a pastime more than anything else. Its no life or death thing, nor is it something that should even have its own thread, u guys are right. Its merely a way to get away from always having to worry about my car, which in my opinion does have its share of problems, as I think most would agree. Ever since ownership of the car, I have not had a chance to do anything fun with the car, regarding any sort of performance mod (not that screwing with BOV sounds is in ANY way a performance mod...seriously), because getting the car to simply move down the road without something happening has already put me in the hole as far as the money deptartment goes. I feel like I have to drive this rotisserie motor like Ms. Daisy ALL THE TIME, or else something else goes wrong. No doubt getting the car to run reliably is what every owner should do, as many of the questions asked in the threads on this 3rd gen. forum regard reliability and just getting the finicky 13B to run properly. I do use this forum for answering my questions, and its indisposable to getting my car to where it is now (Its actually running). But like I was saying before, a little play isn't going to hurt anyone. Why buy the car when ur having no fun with it? Again, peoples idea of fun may differ as well, some enjoy spending countless hours diagnosing a coolant leak, or figuring out how to pry a brittle hose off of a check valve, finding three hours later that it just breaks.
Anyhow, I sound like a damn fortune cookie. I've just about given up with this BOV thing, but will be "EXPERIMENTING" for the ***** and giggles of it.

some of you guys are morons. you will post in the wheels section, or the stereo section, but when it comes to something other than lookin cool or having a bumpin system, you call people a ricer. im sure you buy that bodykit for more aerodynamics, RIGHT. and those wheels, sure those 18s make you faster and help you hook up better. RICER. take a look in the mirror before you start just flat out dissin people for trying to make their blowoff valve sound a little different. how much are they payin for this? nothing. its just somethin to do while you save up for your next real mod. and whats the difference in tellin them to buy an aftermarket blow off valve? do they need one? no. will it increase performance in any way? no. will it change the sound, YES. and thats all they're tryin to do. so stay out of this thread, let the people who want to tinker with their car doing free mods do it. go get some carbon fiber door sills that everyone goes crazy about, or that carbon fiber 99spec wing, those sure make you fast. everyone else is a ricer, but of course....not you, you just wanna look cool.

as for the different sounding blow off valve, keep us updated. ill throw in some input as soon as i have a sec to work on my car.

I got no problem with guys messing around with things but don't you guys think it sounds kinda dumb? ...just use a hanger..... shaped like a pizza? Is this a f@$%in pinehead convention or what! Doing mods that can save you money is cool but it seems to me that some people can't tell the difference between at home mods and hacking the **** out of your car. I want a louder stock BOV, thats why I am reading this thread, but I'm not rednecking my car like that. I'll try pulling the BOV out of the filter box and if it isn't any louder........ Aftermarket is the answer. Take it easy guys...

i hope you were talking to me.

stevey629- i feel for ya. i realy do. these cars can cost an arm and a leg... but you may have to face the facts, your coolant seals are going/gone, and you need a new motor. glad to see you do some learning on here, and that you are actualy taking the time to *try* to figure out what the problem is... but more likely than not, your motor is shot and you realy shouldnt be driving it around seeing if you can make your bov sound different if you want to salvage parts in your motor. thats just my $.02 though.

what amazes me about this post is that half of these people will flame someone about taking on a serious project like an engine swap, but on the otherhand have a post that is going on 4 pages about some rice boy way to make your stock BOV louder with hangers, when you are done with that you should start a post on the best way to Krylon interior pieces or the most effective way to use red or blue loom in your engine bay... or better yet start a petition for altezza tail lights for the FD...

Good Luck
Shaun
PS: I have a stock pile of metal hangers... i'll let em go cheap

WHAT WERE YOU THINKING MAN!!!! With this new mod do you have any idea how scarce the metal hanger is going to be, that was a gold mine you had there, damn.

I personally fear for the metal hanger population, I dont know about you guys.

lol...ok i get the point about the hangers. i never had any intention of doing something like that. but dont rag on em just for tryin. tell them the hangers are a gay idea, and to try somethin else. all you really have to do to make it louder is unplug it from the air box. its pretty loud! i've heard its safer to throw a small oil breather filter on there, to keep dirt out durin vaccum, but im not sure. that might look extremely rice. if there is a good way to vent that BOV to sound like an aftermarket one for free, im game....as long as i dont have to use those "pizza coat hangers" lol. i dont have any hangers, and at such high demand the price of those things are likely to be up around the price of a real BOV!

ok hmmm i got an idea.. ( sorry if i dont know all the lil terms and the proper definitions for the stuff mentiond below. )

im gonna spit it out.. and hopefully see here. how it works. i wanna get some feed back..

seems like all the after market BOV's.. have small exits. where they vent.. now the ones that dont have shoosh sound to them.. but.. it might be something else..
i dont know much about Bov's but.. it sounds like..
the accuall spring .. i belive greddy calls it the Relif valve spring. ( maybe wrong on that) well inst it the harder the spring is the faster the valve opens and closes?...
well i think the looser the spring the more swhooshy sound u get. along with the wider opening.

the higher pitch sound.. comes from a combo of two things.. the diameter of the tube at the END of the BOV.. you know the lil spiggit where the air comes out..
and that tight spring.. i maybe wrong..

this is my first time posting about what i really think.. i hope i dint make a complete *** about my self. :\

so recap.. high pitch sound. small ventrical exit. and tight spring.
swoosh sound . big ventrical exit and not so tight spring.

so.. why not make the exit size on the BOV smaller. like attach a 3" hose or something.. and make the exit smaller on the other side?. i.e. tie wrap it a bit and shrink the end up and try it out.?.. i dont see why it would be bad.. you still releasing the air out..

I can't believe I am helping with this thread... but a little homebrew challenge can be fun, even if the purpose is somewhat mindless.

How about this:
- plumb just like the wire hanger setup, with a section of hose on the outlet of the BOV
- Find a flat washer that you can stuff down the end of the hose, so that it will stay in place and give a smaller section (the open center of the washer) for the air to blow out. Be sure to stuff it down square, perhaps using a little lube to help push it in.

Sometimes they have plastic hose reducer things. I am not sure they would end up with a small enough orifice, but that might work in place of the washer.

Or silicone seal a plastic soda bottle cap on the end of the hose and drill a hole in it. That might be an easier noise maker than the washer, too.

Or, what the hell -- just silicone a whistle into the end of the hose. That may sound stupid, but hey, you are rigging up a BOV to be louder. It might whistle like the HKS BOV. It might be worth a try.

Yeah Max great plan----How bout using a "rape whistle"? They're REAL loud and something is definitely being raped!

If you are actually looking for volume however, there is the option of simply hooking up a high output horn speaker under the hood, connecting it to a 100w rms standalone mono amp and everytime you let off the throttle a continuous loop 8 track player is triggered to play the sound of truck air brakes releasing.

Creativity ------Aint it grand!!
