i actually made my stock BOV louder

i took the existing 1" hose and trimmed it so that the BOV is positioned as close to the y-pipe as possible, i then shortened the vaccum hose for no apparent reason, other than to make it more responsive, and left the other side of the BOV open, no hoses or anything

it's louder now!!

u mean 1" in diameter hose right? isnt that hose long in stock form? I guess thats a cool idea, I have been playing around with what might make that BOV louder, or sound different, suggestions anyone? drilling holes in the outlet portion? some type of fin(s) exit apparatus?

i agree stevey, i'm going to play with diff ideas

but yes, the hose is normally 8" or 9"

yes i plugged the hole it goes to, and a breather didn't make it louder, it keeps oil from spraying out into your engine compartment, i had one on there, i took it off, makes it louder

yea. I would agree with that. I couldn't see how a breather would make it louder. If u manage to come up with something to make it sound different, let me know. I'll try to come up with something. A bit of cheap fun I guess.

I ran into this thread a while ago. Worth thinking about before venting the stock BOV...

i am going to try that also. mine sprays oil out, is that normal???

a forum member on here (skunks) told me how to make the blow off valve louder, and sound different. he said to make it louder you get a 3 foot hose and attach it to the bov and then take the other end and rout it to the outside of the car. he said that at full boost when he blows off you can hear him from 10 car lengths away!! to make it higher pitched you need to get a wire hanger and and stick it in the hose so it looks like a double cross when you look down the pipe. you position them about a quater inch apart and each one about 45 degrees apart. (skunks got his higher pitched than the HKS SS)

if you are looking at the air box there are two hoses on the left (one on top of the other). the one on the bottom is the BOV.

wait, what? I didnt understand ur coat hanger idea. I would assume that u have to put it outside the hose, not in the hose, just incase its ingested. And how many "coat hanger sticks" are there...3? or two. U said double cross...45 degree, and quarter inch, I got lost. Pictures?

****!! i saw thoes but i dident think that they would fit!!! the hole was so small. so do you put them on the inside of the pipe instead of the outside? does it make it sound different?

sorry but i dont have any pictures because i have not done it yet.

what you do is you stick the wire hanger through the hose and every quater inch you turn it about 45 degrees. so when yow are done it will look like 2 crosses (*). you use 4 pieces of hanger in all.

yes, put them on outside and use screw clamps to hold them on, or some adhesive around the edge

ok, I'm clear on the hanger pieces and how they fit like a pizza, but are u drilling holes in the end of the bov, and then running the hangers through the holes? or are u just wrapping them around the ends of the outlet? I dont exactly get what u mean by "hose". Im pressuming u mean the outlet of the bov, or near the end. What I think the idea is, is to take 4 pieces, and make them cross at 45%, making 8 equal slices, then lay that across the end of the hose, bend the extra material down around the BOV outlet, and fasten it to the bov.

I still dont know about that thread, the only way those BOVs are going to open is if the right solenoid allows vacuum through that hose and it allows the BOV to vent, When you get vacuum like on your boost gauge upon decel it doesnt necesarily mean there is vacuum in the hoses for the vacuum, Aftermarket BOVs work the same way so if you can run those w/o a filter then the stockers should be just the same...

So am I.
I tried just 2 coat hangers, and made it all hook up with a couple extra coat hangers (made something similar to the "paper clip type" casing u see on champagne bottles. No tape, no screw brackets, however, Im assuming screw brackets would be much eaiser. I drove it with two of them on, just two pieces at 45 deg. to eachother instead of 90, and I got no sound difference. I can't see how an extra 2 would help, but if it does somehow, lemme know.

i have not actually tried this yet but i was told that it worked (and i saw a video so i believe it). what you do is add an extra pipe extending off the end of the BOV and you put the hangers in that.
