I think the video shows this is not an engine in need of a rebuild anytime soon. The last time I saw the car in person before you purchased it, it only had about 250 miles on it and I remembered it hot started great for a car with only a couple hundred miles on the rebuild. May be an issue with the compression tester that the Mazda tech is using, but that is not a 90 psi engine pulling that vacuum at 760 rpms. Either way, it just proves once again how uneducated the Mazda Techs are with these cars. Obviously I am not speaking about every mazda tech but this is just another example of hundreds over the years.

Either way I wouldnt worry, make sure you have fresh plugs and fresh oil and start to enjoy it. Dont be afraid to beat on it, if the boost is in check those ALS seals can take a lot. If something goes wrong you know I stand behind it.

My Motor At 800 miles

I just performed a compression test on my rebuilt motor after 800 miles of run -in.Motor was built by Mazdees(Dave Dietricht),Pickering ,ON.
I provided the core,a running 40K mile 93 JDM,new factory 2mm seals,springs,corner seals,corner springs,oil O-rings and gaskets.Side seals and side seal springs were re-used and no porting was done.
Runs smooth, starts hot or cold, idle vac at 730 rpm is about 19in.

After hearing the video, that Mazda tech doesn't know WTF he's talking about. That engine sounds healthy.

Your idle drop during cold start may have something to do with the way your AWS (Accelerated Warm-up System) is working. Is it eliminated/disconnected? It's actually ok to use that system as it will also help burn the excessive fuel during a cold start-up. The faster you warm up a rotary engines combustion chamber, the less carbon build-up you will create. Anyone telling you that the AWS is bad for your engine doesn't know WTF they are talking about as they are only guessing. My original engine got 108k and it has perfectly re-usable bearings and 1 really good housing when I broke it down after blowing it back in 2006.

You also mentioned it not starting at all like the battery was dead? That may be your alarm relay. Search the 3rd gen section "titles" for "Click click" by Goodfellas.
