1997 Type R SE

a couple weeks ago sold my silver FD project car that I had not made much progress on lately. I was in the food court at the base and some guy ask me are you that guy that knows about RX7. Said he was leaving the island in a few days and wanted to know if I wanted to buy his car. So we did some negations and shook hands.

1997 RX-7 Type R Special Edition ( not sure what the SE is for but its on door jam sticker )

The bad: front rotor has zero compression. LOL but still drives ok on one rotor. Trying to decide if I will find a used engine and just swap it or if I will rebuild this engine in mid/ end of july. right now getting the parts for it. I am surprised how good it drives on one good rotor, I bumped the idle up to 1300 and it seams to do ok as temporary even with the air con running full blast. I have spare rotor housing and rotors so I am not really worried about the front housing im sure it got toasted when the old owner busted the it.

planning on going single and I think a power fc, injectors, fuel

10 minutes after i got it I was driving and the drivers side mirror go flying off. So while im trying to find mirror tub replacement. I have some stock black mirrors I think I will put on just for temporary.

the bad part 2. I dont know if it was old owner or before him but someone installed an alarm with key less. the drivers side lock is busted and pass anger side door handle is broken.
The windows only go up and down when the engine is running LOL if the engine is off and key on they dont move. so gotta fix that. Also the alarm is wired up so if the engine is running it auto locks the doors so I made the mistake of getting out of the car with window rolled up and the car running. as soon as i shut the door it locked it self and none of the doors will open lucky had the hatch open. I will be pulling the alarm and keyless out in the next few days.

its got evo r head light kit. I will be changing headlights too when I find some thing else. at night I cant see on low beam at all and the buckets dont fit very good. I will take some close up pics so you can see the fit.

so here is a few pics

How long are you staying there? I could see dumping a bunch of money into it if you live there but only being there for 2 years you can buy a fully running one for $600 on base.

Looking good Tony. The SE would have a model underneath that line like Bathurst R or Spirit R and the like. I had the same question about my 95 when I was out there.

One of my friends wanted a FD for a project car after he wrecked his FD.

Last night changed out the steering wheel and wiper/turn switches with a spare one I had.

The horn connector was different on the non airbag switches so I just put a jumper on it

removed the lock cylinder going to take it apart looks like the little key door is smashed down inside the lock. cant believe how easy it is to change out the locks. for right now I put the passenger side lock in the drivers door so I can lock and unlock the car now. took about 10 minutes to take boot door locks out and swap it.

I went to the dealer and asked if they could get a new lock to match my old key they said no. seams kinda odd to me. I remember doing this in the states.

woohoooo I can lock the car now. I also removed the alarm that was installed. so now my doors do not auto lock when car is running.

next I need to figure out how to get the power windows to work again they only work when car is running. my guess is with the alarm they by passed the relay or something.
