If it makes you feel any better, here's what I ran my first and only time at the strip last year:

14.2@100 mph with a 2.18 60' time

This was with temps in the upper 80s, low 90s, with stock size Dunlop 8000s at 25 psi.

Oh, and with cat-back and downpipe.

See, you're not the only one who sucks drag racing...

Although I think I could do a bit better now.

When I ran mine at the track when it was all stock, I was doing a 13.8 to 14.1 quarter mile, and that was when it was like 90 degrees outside!

well my point is his time will drop where it's supposed to be when he figures out the best way to launch the car and get that 60' under 2.0!!!! icing down the intake is not going to make up for driving ability!! just keep on practicing and he will get there.

Anyone have any techniques for getting the 60' down? I've never been to a strip myself, but I plan on going when my car is up and running again. I always hear people say "get that 60' time down and you'll do fine." But what can be done? Is it all in the launch? or the shifting? what is it?

it's all in the launch! refer to my first post for how i set up tire pressure and all, also i slip the clutch when i launch the car. engine rpm should not be under 5500 rpm.

You launch at 5500 rpms? I thought the ideal was around 3500? Also is this on street tread?

actually i was launching at about 7,000 rpm cause my clutch was slipping slightly and worked best that way! i used street tires on the car and got a best 60' of 1.7 on the car! i have a timeslip to back this up if anybody wants to question this!

damn..that high of launch is abusive to a basically stock FD. I am not willing to abuse my car for a quicker ET. People that launch that high break stuff. I launch around 3500rpms and still get alot of wheel spin, but i am making alot more power then you. I usually get anywhere from 1.95-2.10 with this technique. Besides i really only care about trap speed.

i agree! i think the only reason i didn't break anything was cause of my slipping clutch.

JPJ...PM next time you go to the track. I live about 5 miles from RCR.

The more you practice the better you will get. You need to get you some ET streets.

I am going to dyno and tune my car Monday or Tuesday and then hope for a 11 second pass on Wednesday.

Let me know if you are interested in going out there.

That would be a great idea, but there is one problem. I am leaving to move up to michigan on friday. I dont want to take my car to the track and break something 2 days before I leave. Thanks for the offer though. I hope there are friendly 7 owners up north too.

Where abouts in MI are you moving to. While I'm not yet a 7 owner I'm hoping to be very shortly. I'm just outside Detroit.

Ok second try at the track. I had to move the move back one week. So I decided to go again tonight. My best was while I was smoking a c4. Heres the #'s, theres a lot of improvement.

13.7 1/4 mile
101.33 mph
0.8122 reaction
2.1768 60 foot

C4 ran a 14.13 at 97.47mph. I'm much happier with these #'s. Where were you fastrx7man?

Much better, but your trap speed is pretty low. I'm assuming it was a bit warm again? (over 90 today here in the Bay Area)

It wasn't real warm during that run. Maybe 85, and real humid again. But my best trap was at 104 on another 13.7? Is that ok, or what should it be around? And what would make the difference?

Ah, 104 sounds more like it!

A couple of more trips and you'll be flying. Which reminds me, I've got to make it to the strip again sometime. Always ready to humiliate myself..
