How to roll fenders??

Hey, I've been told this is a pretty simple task, but could someone explain in detail what it entails. I'm putting 19x8.5 and 19x10 Blitz Z1's. I know I know, no reason to put 19's on an FD, yada yada yada. I'm keeping the stockers for the track and the strip, but prefer the look of the 19's, so i don't need a lecture about the 19's.

Thanks for any help guys!!

I had to roll my front fender lip to fit the 255/40/17 with 40 mm offset and the paint chipped off:-(
I strongly recommend not to do the fender rolling. I would not do it again and instead go with a narrower tire.

Fender rolling means to only bend in the inside of the fender lip by using a wooden 2x4 or baseball bat for example. You put the 2x4 between tire and fender and press down. It only gives you a few more millimeters clearance for the tire. And the next bigger bump you hit could pull the bend in lip back out and make it all worse. That happend to me too.

Good luck

yup, just grab a baseball bat (a wooden one that you don't need anymore) and place it between the wheel and the fender and start rolling. its easy but my advise is to go slow, real slow. take your time and it should not crack your paint.

good luck

P.S. go slow

Well, if going to use a baseball bat, you might want to get a hair dryer, or maybe even a vapor gun with a low setting, and heat the paint around the fender. This way there is less risk of the paint cracking. Personally, I would just go to a mechanic and have them use the rolling tool and not risk a new paint job.

My buddy did this to another car. I don't know where he found this, but there is a tool that will do this very nice and clean. You bolt it up using the wheel studs, there is a arm that hangs off of it and then you use the arm the roll the fender. No bat required. He owns an M3, so you may want to browse the bimmer forums.

good luck.

what kind of place might have that type of tool? A body shop? a tire place? a motorsports place? any ideas. Is there really that great of a danger with the baseball bat and a hair dryer? How much does the fender need to be moved? WIth my setup is this somethig that only needs to be done in the front or will i ahve a problem in the rear too? Thanks guys for all of your help so far!

Tool available from www.tirerack.com as a free loaner (I think you have to have made a purchase from them of course). They charge $600 or so on your CC, then refund it minus shipping costs when you send it back.

Be prepared for the wait, especially during the summer. I waited 6 months almost to the day, no exaggeration.

Front took a little bit of finese, as that the wheel arch (fender lip) is not centered exactly compared to the wheel axle/hub. Be prepared to have the fenders repainted too, if you are not the patient type. Need a heat gun to heat up the paint to soften it up, other wise it will crack. Over do the heat gun, and you risk burning the paint. Find something to practice the heat gun on first.
