CA How to remove your AC

Hi guys. im new here and ive been lurking around for quite a while. ive been searching and searching and i have checked the FMS on the FD and im still not too sure on how to take the Air Conditioner out. could someone help me? how do i go about removing the system.

ive read that we use the goodyear belt 360k6 once the AC is removed. is this true?

your help and wisdom is much appreciated!

My help and wisdom is here to tell you to keep the AC unless your car is going to be a "track only" car.

For a street car, the performance benefit of removing AC is not going to be remotely detectable. Removing it is mostly a silly affectation - right up there with stickers and neon underlighting IMHO.

My car is used for autox and occasional track days, never on the street, so the AC has been removed.

Sitting in grid on hot days there are times I wish I still had the AC.
But that feeling goes away when I have to work under the hood.

+1 for keeping AC in a street car.

Power steering cooler.

Why are you needlessly hacking at your car? Wax it or clean the wheels or something if you are bored.

ohh i see. im not hacking at it. just learning. i think im going to keep it and probably bend the condenser or something parallel to the ground to get it out of the way of the radiator.. just an idea

How complicated can removing the AC be? Unbolt what needs to be unbolted to remove the various components. If it's charged, it would be nice to have a shop recover the R12.
The gain in performance is far far outweighed by the reduction of the car's value, but it's your car.
It's a little scary that you brought back a 7 yr old thread and started a new one because you feel the need for a forum hand and pictures to do it but........it is your car.

Are you having temperature control problems? Lots of highly modified FD run with AC and the PS system in place. The cooling system is more than up to the job with these components in place.

The proper way to remove the radiator is from the underside of the car. See the FSM. No bending of AC lines is required.

I actually have the same question. Sorry to bring this up again. I have been searching on how to remove AC. I just attended NASA HPDE last week, and actually experienced water temp above 220F I will add 2nd oil cooler (already got 25 row Earl's on driver side with -10AN lines) to make sure oil temp is down but I would like to remove air-con, especially the condenser so my radiator can get better cooling.

My car is 95% track car and since my air con don't work well anyways I figure I might as well remove it.

I assume I just remove Compressor, Condenser and lines then I am good to go. But I just want to make sure I am doing it right. What belt should I purchase to replace the current belt? Just belt for cars without air-con?

i've removed the A/C in my street FD. only because it leaked pretty heavily and i didn't want to fix it. and this way it makes my engine bay a little less complicated.

I removed my air pump for this same reason, not to save weight or enhance performance.

I guess it also depends on where you live, i live in the southern utah mountains where my summer lasts 2-3 months at most
