so yeah his car can definitely last if he doesnt beat it down all the time.
But i would have installed WI years ago as cheap insurance had I known about it.
Sounds like he needs a little peace of mind though
is this a new record?

I was wondering the same thing As far as engine reliability goes, the motor is not very forgiving of mistakes, mis-maintenance/neglect, and/or improperly functioning support systems. Turbos, emissions crap, injectors, fuel pump, wiring, etc. There's a lot of crap attached to the motor that can and will likely go bad at some point, esp. as the cars age. Sounds like you don't have that problem as bad as some others.

You should know in your heart whether or not you want to keep the car. If it really means enough to you, you shouldn't have to ask others what you should do. If you're questioning whether or not to keep it, just sell it.

With 70K on the clock, you could probably get another 70 before you will need a rebuild. Do the reliability mods!

You dont need to be paranoid about this. Just drive it. If your too worried, then sell it and buy a S2000

By the way, check in on the fdrx7 forum sometime, the Sydney crew have regular cruises

Reassurance was what I was seeking as mentioned before, hence asking ppl who may have an insight.

I'm gonna say no, but that's just to be safe, I don't know what kind of plugs the rx8 uses. You probably can, but I wouldn't. I don't know why you would anyways, they're 3-5 times the price of the proper ones for an FD

Mazda made many mistakes with a car that is absolutely amazing. With enough attention, mods, and money.... your car will last a very long time. Engines, tranny, suspension, body work, and paint are all considered maintenance for me. As mentioned, I will rebuild my car many times to enjoy the experience of what it gives me.

1st Mod for an FD should be another car..... period

Even if my car was 100% reliable forever, I would still never daily drive it. It just doesn't deserve it.....

Just my .002

Mistakes? More like decisions. They could have easily addressed a lot of the small things people complain about. However, all those things add up and would have ultimately affected pricing. What Mazda didn't want (and couldn't afford) was to be in the price range of Porsche's or NSX's.

The FD is a fine car, until something goes wrong. And something will definitely go wrong. If I were still a starving student (ah, those were the days) I'd not only walk away from it, I'd run knowing what I know now. But, it's an emotional decision, car stuff is almost never decided by the rational part of our brain.

Despite if you think they were decisions... you must admit, Mazda over thought many of the systems when designing the car.... Notably, the twin turbo setup. And I do agree, keeping the car in its price range at the time, was quite a feat.... despite their engineering errors.

However, I have no complaints with the suspension & chassis... it is to this day,.. amazing.
