Anyone know where the o ring goes for the suction fitting? Is it on the fitting or on the body of the pump?

I have the Mazda kit and the only o ring I have left fits the body of the pump and not on the suction fitting itself.

I know this is an old thread but wanted to see if those who went down this route if anyone still experienced what I am experiencing.
I rebuilt the entire PS pump including a new bearing and I still have the same issue minus the leaking of oil. I still hear a grinding noise. I confirmed that it is indeed coming from the pump by using a screw driver to the ear. Even when turning the wheel it the noise increases.
The last thing to do is replacing the steering rack.
Thoughts?

I rebuilt the PS pump on my FC, which is basically the same design and had no issues with it. With regard to the pump making noise as described, if the bearing is new, it may be worth double-checking how the vanes were reinstalled on the rotor. It's pretty easy to install one or more of them backwards, which would likely result in excessive wear and probably make some noise. If you look at the vanes closely, you'll notice that on the long side, one edge is curved, the other edge is straight/square. The square edge goes into the rotor, the curved edge rides along the pump housing.

Yes I did make sure that the curved edge was facing out.

Could it be a bad bearing? You can swap those out too. that's the only other thing I can think of for the PS Pump body... otherwise it might be something at the rack end transmitting sound/vibrations back up...

I sort of had the same thing happen to be. I needed to replace my pump, the end of the shaft was stripped and it leaked bad. I bought a used pump and did the rebuild. I had rebuilt one on my previous FD with no issues. Ordered the same parts and bearing I had used the last time (Gates kit) and it sort of whines like a Ford PS pump. It's been on there about a year and still works, just makes noise. I don't like it. I used red ATF. Technically the pump that was rebuilt was unknown to me.

I have another one I just did the same procedure on ready to swap in this week. Wondering if I need to go with a more traditional PS fluid? Like an amber colored fluid. I used a press for all bearing and shaft removals/installs. No hammers.
