How rare is the red inerter?

I have a 93 fd with the red interter and I have seen alot of black and tan but only one red. I was just wanting to know how rare they are or is it just that I have never seen them?

the red interter/red inerter is quite a match for any hunter. Many have looked long and far without ever seeing one.

Word has it that Michael Jackson has one in his secret room. He may well use it to lure young, unsuspecting boys who are themselves looking for the elusive red interter.

When I was looking for an RX-7 I either wanted Silver or White. It seemed that every silver car I found had freakin' red interior. Just how my luck is I guess. If you don't want it then that's all you find. I didn't know it was rare. No biggie, I'm happy with my white/black combo.

You guys don't know anything. He's talking about a red torque inerter, found on an auto tranny, 93 limited edition orange FD.

Quite rare indeed!!

I have a 94 silverstone touring model with red leather interior. I understand only 20 were made. The color is different to the 1993 red and was discontinued part way through the model year. Mazda cannot obtain any replacement seating surfaces so I have to maintain the ones I've got pretty carefully.

I think red interior is much more rare than the other combinations. I know in my 7 years of being around FDs, I have only seen about 4.

How about a cloth interior 93. I have only seen one of those.

FWIW, I have a black/red 1993 for sale if anyone is interested. I had a post months ago in the forsale forum. I need to put a new one.

I've got one of the 20 silver w/red '94 touring models in Ca. (are you sure that's all there were in '94?)

They sure look better than the 93's with the red door panels.....

Gen3rx7:

There were only a total of 118 1994 silverstone touring models brought into the US. Of those, 20 were red interiors and the balance were black. Since they weren't selling, Mazda discontinued the red interior.

Mine is a 93 touring black with a red gut.

When I called the guy I got the car from and he told me it had a red interior I almost didnt go look at it. When I got there I thought it looked hot so the rest is history..

I think that the red interior looks really classy. It's something that you just don't see very often at all. Something like that really catches people's eyes. I have only seen a handful of red interiors in the 6 years I have been around FD's.

Thanks for the info Salamander!

The silver with red interior is a throwback to classic sports cars of the 50's and 60's. Porsche 356 and Mercedes 300 SL come to mind......

BTW, my interior is in like new condition. I did not see any nicer at the Sevenstock show this year....

The red leather interior was still available in the 2002 Japanese RX7. I am not sure if it is the same as the US 1993-94 type but it looks different to me. The 93 red was available in the Black and Silver models, the 94 only in the Silver models.

I think the RED leather was reintroduced for 2000 and was absent from 94-2000 even in Japan - also the 93 Red interiors included red HeadLiners, Door Panels, and Storage bins (w/ BLACK carpet) the 94 Red leather was on the seats, w/red carpet, but the rest of the interior was black. Red interiors were only offered w/ Silver, White and Black exteriors iirc.

I have only seen one red interior FD, as for how rare I dont know but to me it seems that if you own a FD you have a rare car to begin with. There is something with every FD it seems like that make it a little different from other FDs. Mine is a 93 touring black leather, It has the rear window squirter and a knock out for the wiper but no wiper, it has two oil coolers (on touring one is supposed to be for the power stearing). But then again my FD came of the rack 6-92, so I dont know if at this time they had no idea what they were going to do with FD or what, It could be one of the first R1 convertions to touring. I DONT KNOW. Then there were only 13,000 FDs shipped to the states, that makes them rare too.
