should anyone in college really be looking for an FD?

 

yeah maybe your right i prob. jump the gun on this one. Maybe i should start with a S13 then jump up to a FD

If you only have $13K, you will wind up with a partially completed car, and no money to finish or race it.

I've been racing for a long time, and it ALWAYS takes twice the time & money that you initially think will be required. Get something that uses 1/2 of your budget, and you may have some funds left to actually drive it.

buy a roller with full interior for 6-7k
drop in a engine/tranny

reliability mods. and you should have a good car, granted you can do the work on your own.

If your heart is set on an FD, take your $13k and invest it wisely. By the time you are done with college and on your way in your career, you will either have a great war chest or you may decide that you would rather buy a house and you will have a great down payment.

save us and yourself. go 240. it seems like you're looking for a cheap way to enjoy an FD and thats just not possible.

thats 760 for a lot of the stuff i can see in the pics and its a theft so they sell for cheap.....

 

ya i would say my car is track worthy at this point with engine and tranny rebuilds and suspension and reliability accounted for and i am more like 30-40k invested. i really dont think 13k is going to get you anything that will work for an extended period of time

 

honestly, i'd get the S13. it's more reliable and less of a hassle if **** breaks. Seriously, there's nothing on this car that you can go to the autozone and pick up without a special order.

looks like there's been an engine fire. at 12k, it's probably not worth it. Seriously you're gonna have to have everything imported to fix it.

 

i'd try to offer the guy money first, like 3-5k.. and go from there, maybe they dont know what they have, u never know, or just let the seller sit on your offer for about a month and u'll get a call back.. if ur looking for a track car, just put a racing seat in, and contact someone on this site w/ stock oem parts... wouldnt cost much to make a track car, i see tailights on here all the time for sale.. u can find a gauge cluster easy.. it would just be the body work i'd be worried about.. fenders ect ect.

i got my FD for 6k and the interior is **** too. its deff not going to be 3k even if you buy the pieces new. Im thinking it'll cost me about 1500 tops. good luck! let me know if you find any reasonably priced sites

 

You can get a halfway decent 93 for 13k. It might need a little TLC, but the right one is out there for that price.

 

That interior on the first car isnt that bad- just get an instrument cluster, snap it back into place, get the heater control/radio panel, fit that (making sure to fit the heater panel BEFORE refitting the instrument cluster!!-does not work the other way round..) and a few other bits & pieces & hey, its done.

But I wouldnt, because of the damage to the body. Maybe its just me, but any FD thats been hit hard, is never going to be as good as when it left Hiroshima, or as good as a rolling shell in mint condition with no interior at all.

When we import them, we never get to inspect them firsthand, so typical rule of thumb when buying a whole FD as a 'drivers car' goes:

1. Whats the condition of the engine bay?/driveline/electronics
2. Has it been in an accident? Is the body straight decent?
3. What are the other bits like? (interior, plastics, etc.)

We recently sold a blue Series 8 RS that had only done 20,000km since new, but had been rolled over. It was in poor condition, & we decided that even though it was rare (had the BBS style wheels & everything) it would never be the same even after it was repaired. Not one straight panel left on it, suspension was folded under on the RH front, etc- the guy apparently died in it. So somebody got a bargain for AUD $1000.00
