You can probably get a better idea if you called a dealership or some parts stores.

NAPA wants 239 for a NAPA brand rebuilt one or 300 for a bosch after core.

Well it actually works great, but i got the housings ceramic coated, and the terminal black plastic piece is all cracked to ****, plus i wanted to put a new brushes and bearings in... although they dont need those last 2 parts.

For $230 from AutoZone you get a rebuilt with a Lifetime warranty. For the extra 30 bucks I would definitly buy it from them over the dealer.

I've tried getting one from the dealer about 4 months ago....and they told me it was backed up...infact the nearest dealer was in Arizona!!!! If i'd really wanted the dealer said that I would have pay all of the freight and tax fees....my mechanic actually found a used one for about 75 bucks...its been ok so far...knock on wood!!! If not I would have gotten the Autozone one.
I've worked there for about 6 months now, and don't see very many of our autozone alts come back unless there pretty old, they have the life time warranty anyway.

I heard their quality was suspect, but I've heard that second hand.

I hate autozone, because the shop i work at is called Advanced Autozone and we get people calling to check stock and price and parts all day long. Anyways, theres a reason why autozone, kragen, napa and others have a lifetime warranty. Number one, most people dont use it, and i think you need to keep the original receipt, and because they need it because they have a higher failure rate. In San Francisco and the bay area, we have a few local rebuilders that have a very good reputation. We use a company call ASE and i think we had like 3 combacks in like 2 years. My friends car went through 3 Kragen starters in a year. This is from first hand experience. I once did a side job and changed the alternater twice within 6 months on a friends car, it was a Kragen starter. I rather use a used oe part with a know low mileage than a shitty rebuil/reman. My oe alternater and starter lasted 150k.

Some dealerships just give Mazda a bad name...
