how much for an imported 3rd gen?
hey guys, i'm new here and signed up to get some more info about the rx-7. always loved the car, but always worried that the engine will blow up if i bought one. anyways, i don't know how familiar you are with pricing, but i saw a 1994 rx-7 that was imported from japan with 70K miles on it the other day. it was selling for $16.5. it was the real deal, right hand drive, had the efini badge on the back, everything. looked pretty nice. is this a good deal? or is it more than the average rx-7? thanks in advance

are you gong to be able to register it?? if you could import rx7s from japan im sure this forum would be full of jap spec efini owners.
If your worried about the engine blowing up, an early jap model with very sketchy history (it will if you dont travel to japan look at it personally) maybe be a very bad mistake.

thansk for the replies. it's actually for the usa, and it's already been imported here. i saw it in person over the weekend at nopi nationals and it belonged to a guy working for an importing shop. it looked pretty nice, i sat in it and everything. he said it was imported about 2 months ago and is legalized for the usa.

Well, you can't blow the engine up... lose compression or leak coolant, possibly. If you're new to rotaries, it's a common myth that they "blow up".
When they let go, it's not awe inspiring or fantastic... it's just disappointing because they don't go as fast as they used to and are nearly impossible to start.
Someone will soon chime in on the import issue. I'm pretty sure that what that guy has told you is not legally possible.

geez...i'm new to rotaries and i'm pretty sure most of the info i know is based off myths and from what people tell me, which 99% is "don't get a rx-7 b/c the engine will die on you". i'd like to not believe this is entirely true, but i'm a bit worried that it'll turn into a money pit. i don't really race or drive hard, but i'd like to rip it every now and then.
