How much do you spend to keep your fd running a year?
This is my first 6 months and i've already spent 3k for an RA rebuild kit, new housings and rebuilt turbos. reliability parts (alum. ast, downpipe, exhaust) haha...i kinda knew what i was getting myself into.
I have owned my fd for 13 months now and spent about 6k now.
-ast, dp, koyo rad., blitz intake, greddy IC/elbow, enfini y pipe, tokinco Illuminas, rb dual tips, halman boost controller, Defi gauges, new rims and tires. Polished alternator, vacuum job.
There is more, but I just can't think of them right now.

The first 3 years when it was stock it was dead reliable, then I installed a PFC and midpipe, those next 2 years were a nightmare. Now I spend next to nothing, after learning some valuable lessons....
Money to keep it running should not include cost of upgrade toys. I have had my car for 11 years, Included new purchase price of car, upgrades and maintenance and tires .. about $80,000 - $90,000 total. Maybe, 1500 year maintenance alone. Car has 55,000 miles, last 8 years at < 1500 mile year. Mostly track, AutoX and racing. Still on orginal engine; no component failures (knock on wood)
Had it just over a year and I have spent more on the car then I have paying the car off...
I am over the $5k mark so far...
But like most, I knew what I was getting myself into, the sad thing is I don't think I will be satisfied until I dump around another $10k into it.
Right now I save up in stages, but the things I need and want to do that I can change out and keep it running. The next few stages are big ones, wheels, tires, suspension, then fuel, turbo kit, tune. After all that I will worry about looks, my FD is pretty ugly right now.
Lets just say I plan things in 6 month spans.

My typical maintenance; oil and brake fluid change every 3mos and after track, brake pads 2-3 times year as required, rotors once every 1 - 1.5 years, coolant once year, spark plugs 1 to 2 times year, fuel filter once year, tires - street about once 2 years, autoX 2 sets per year year, race about 4 sets per year
I bought my car with 46,000 original miles on it, in very good condition (10-8-10 boost pattern, passed California smog the first time).
I spent about $1000 the first year, which included a new set of tires, downpipe, spark plug wires, fuel filter, accessory belts. I do all my own work except for tires. The car has seen plenty of miles, including daily driving (10-15k per year) and at least 6-10 autocross events in the past couple years.
I spent about $500 the second year, including a replacement front swaybar & mounts (old ones were bent), and a new battery (Odyssey PC680).
I'm midway into my third year of ownership right now but it seems like it will be around $500-1000 this year also; I need some new brake pads & rotors, some of my cooling hoses are getting old, and I'm probably due for another set of tires soon as well.

I've had mi car for almost 10 years. I bought in 1996 w/ 15k miles. I hate to think about how much I've spent on the car, but I'm guessing that over the past 10 years the number shoud be around $50k +/- including the cost of the car $25,400, all mods, motors and paint jobs.
i have only owned my fd for 14 months and so far i have spent $13,000.00 on top of the $11,000.00 i paid for it. Obviously that was not maintenence, more or less power mods. once it is up and running , i guess oil changes and wearing parts (brakes, clutch, bearings, tires ..etc...) Maybe $500-600 per year. I only drive it from May till October because i'm in Buffalo, NY.
Keeping track
Hey, getting into an FD, the driver should be aware of the costs to maintain. You want to drive it you gotta pay to maintain it. I've had mine since 70 dealer miles in late 95 and am looking to aquire an addtional Toy.
COST TO MAINTAIN is the least of my concern's. But, since you asked you have to grade it on the type of years it's been with you ride.
For a few years it's only gas and servicing which is on the low side
to 1 yr in which I spent about 14K modifying and am still consistly modifying and maintaining. So it remains a costly habit but a worthy one

Maintaining and modifying are two very different price tags. Maintaining the car in stock(or near stock) condition really won't net you a large tally. But as soon as you start to mod it, you're crusin for a bruisin.
I haven't had mine long enough to know, but so far its looking like 1K of modding and less than 200 in maintence since I've bought it.

$100 in gas a month (if I drive each weekend)
$25 in oil every 3 months
$4 in premix every 2nd fueling (x2/ month...again if I drive each weekend)
$25 in meth/h2o x2 year
roughly - $1500 a year.

brake fluid is probably due, i only ever changed the pads.
and i changed the fuel filter about 6 mo ago, but i thought that is only supposed to be done every 30k mi
used to be just basic maintaence and I mean basic (actually not even basic) and ran great....
some people don't go to the track and/or have other cars.

In 13mo of ownership, I've spent about $18,000. Though it felt like more when I was spending it. This includes maintenance, significant preventative measures, and an engine build up with a new rear housing and turbos.

What's really expensive is taking your precious to the track but that's also where you can truly enjoy all the accessories that you've adorned your baby doll with
Just in the last two months:
3 set of Hoosiers 1800 ( got a really good deal hehe )
3 sets of brake pads 600
1 set of front rotors 400
oil cooler and fitting 175
manifold work 400
nuts and bolts misc bullshit 100
trailer maint 275
etc...
Is this worth it? YEP. In fact I feel like I'm getting a bargain because I'm smiling just a big as the boys in their GT3s for 1/4 the price
Don't get me wrong if I could afford a Porsche I'd own one or three hehe.
So keep spending and keep SMILING but don't end up toothless living in a trailer somewhere in middle america as a result.
