How much did you spend to get your FD working properly?
I was just reading the "How much did you spend on your FD" thread. And noticed that some of the guys didn't pay too much for theirs. Under $11k.
Now, how much did you spend to get it running properly? I know you guys didnt buy your car for under $11k and it was running perfect?
BTW, how much does the avg. new engine (rebuilt or remanufactured) cost? Or how much did you spend on yours?

I didn't spend any money at all to get my car running properly. I'm on my second engine, because my stupid Mazda Dealership fucked it up. The second engine didn't cost me anything. Also, my car has been extremely reliable and I never had any problems with my car. My car is also daily driven.

Engine rebuilds
I purchased mine with the Engine and turbos allready rebuilt. It was easier to finace that, since I didn't have the cash to do it myself. The engine itself can run $2k to $7k and the turbos can run $1.5k to $3.5k or upgrade for even more. Check out Mazdatrix for prices. You can't get a whole new engine, but you can get new rotors. Typical Engine & Turbo rebuild is $10k with labor.

I had to replace radiator, clutch, brake pads, plugs, wires, vac. lines, clutch slave & master, AST, thermostat (there wasn't one), rear oil seal, stock "crap" pipes coming off the turbos, precat was at least half plugged
Still need to replace - oil pan gasket leaks (need to seal the right way), suspension bushings are shot, more and more...
How much? I don't want to know...I just want to enjoy it.

Lets see here....
After 1 year and 3 months of ownership...
Warranty=1600
MIsc Tri-Point work including hose job=1800
OEMradiator=400
Redo of boost hose job=450
trouble shoot poor boost condition(X3)=1000
mods=1300 or so.
still has a dead sellanoid(sp?). Sometimes I loose all primary turbo boost, happens after running hard.
If I didn't love it so much, I would have definitly sold it by now.

Mine ran fine untill i started to upgrade it and now its been in the shop 4 times for larger problems since august. First freon leaked out, then compressor crapped out, after that freon leaked out of the expansion valve, next my brake lights wentout, o and throw in a couple of cracked/snapped/fubard vacuum hoses and you'll see my delemma. Most of these things were fixed by warranty including my recently blown engine savings of over 6g's to date. But hey what can i say the good ol' single likes to break things.

That's what my problem is going to be when i acutally get my 7 sometime within the next 5 years. Yeah, i know i said 5 years...but i'm still in college and i don't have anywhere to store the car. I'm not going to be daily driving it so....
But anyway, i've already got plans for over $25,000 in parts, i'll have to wait and see. Maybe i'll get a REALLY good discount or something. I say that cause i want to have all the work done at once even if it takes forever.

I was lucky and was able to buy my RX-7 in 10/95 for only $18,500 with 30k miles and the only problem I ever had with it was the AST failed. The car now has over 65k miles and almost $10k of mods and runs better then ever. I had it dynoed at 277rwhp @10psi on stock twins. This has been one of the most reliable cars I ever owned and this has been tracked serveral times and has been regularly autocrossed for the last 5 years.

Uh, the running total is about $6k now, and the motor rebuild, new tires, a new clutch, hood and bodywork are coming up in hte next month, so I estimate closer to $12k by the end of summer. Josh

Paid about 10 bucks to make the "Home Depot" boost controller to fix a lack of boost (was missing the pills) caused by previous owner. Other than that, he took excellent care of the car and it ran perfectly.
