How much boost for JDM 99 turbos?

Firstly, I have searched, but this may be a little less common problem. I have a '01type R and have blitz intake and just installed a new exhaust. Not surprisingly my boost is spiking. How high is safe on the newer turbo/engine combination ( as opposed to the earlier spec).
Thanks i advance, and sorry if this is at another thread.

With the newer verson of twins and the efini y-pipe combination you should be boosting 11lbs if I remember correctly. Are you asking how much boost is safe on the OEM ECU? I'm not shure what is newer on the engine other then the rats nest. You only changed the intake and you are getting boost spikes?

He said he put a new exhuaust on it as well. It probably included a midpipe. If not then i dunno what you could have done unless you broke a vaccume line when you did the intake install.

If you have a "series-8" then you will have the 280ps turbo's as standard for the "Type-R". The max reliable boost & max boost are obviously different, so if you plan on keeping the turbo's in one piece then dont exceed 1-bar boost. Most Japanese tuners max out at 0.9-bar just to be safe.

If you are in Sydney, then get in contact with the FD guru. Called "SP-II" his name is Marcus Read & knows the FD series down to every last nut & bolt, what went on what series et etc.

Thanks guys, plan is that I am gonna drive like a little old lady for a few weeks while I save up for the PFC, and a SMIC upgrade. The intake wasnt causing the boost spike, it was the exhaust, which is turbo back 3" with high flow cat. The boost seems to be hitting (momentarily) 1.2 kg/cm, which is way way above safe from the sound of things. ( about 16psi??). It was sitting at 0.9 kg/cm, so it has certainly come a long way up.

I am in perth. There seems to be a few rotary guys around. Can you recmend anyone here?

pfc - straight away and limit the boost (using the in-built control) to 0.9 bar. 1.2 is well into the dangerzone.

hey, thanks for that plug dmrh. made me feel all fuzzy inside....lol

Adam, try Kim Ledger (Heath Ledgers Dad) at a place called THE ROTARY SHOP. Unsure where it is exactly in Perth but they import & sell the series-8's so should know how to maintain them for you.

And yeah, dmrh is right about the boost. Keep it under 1kg/cm just to be safe
