How much?
For anyone who read my previous post last Saturday, I finally got the bad news Friday evening (luckily at Happy Hour) that my engine is gone.
So now comes one of the hardest decisions I've had to make in my life, but I think I'm going to sell it, drive my beater Escort for 6-8 months, and pay off all my outstanding debt, car and plastic. If I go this route, it will be the first time in over four years I haven't owned an RX7, and while I hope Ryan and the rest of the St. Louis club doesn't cast me out I think this will be the best thing to do in the long run. And, honestly, I'll probably buy another FD next year, unless the RX8 comes out surprisingly cheaper. Anyway, I'm putting off the inevitable.....
58,8xx miles, 1993 Montego Blue Touring Edition - excellent condition inside and out - tan leather interior, sunroof, downpipe, custom leather boots (I know that will make a HUGE difference!), custom intake, downpipe.
How much should I ask if I sell it as-is with the blown motor? FDs in this area with similar milage and condition go for around 17k or higher when they don't have a shot engine.
Will I be better off selling as-is, or fixing it first, then selling it?
This f**king SUCKS. If not for the fact I can have all my debt gone by next year, I would never sell this car. For all you kiddies out there, pay cash for your toys... one stupid purchase is all it takes to plunge you into the hell hole known as credit card debt (and no, that purchase wasn't this car for me).
ARGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I know most '93's with blown motors usually sell for under $10K. But Mike's car is an exception. I would say don't take less than $12K for it in as-is condition.
I still haven't heard back from anybody about getting you a motor ...

*moment of silence*
I haven't seen the car but I've never seen an FD sell for more than 8 or 9 thousand w/ a blown motor.
If you put a motor in (guessing 4 to 5 thousand and 2-3 months) maybe you could get the $17k you mentioned. Might be worth it IF you can pay for the engine. Tough situation no matter what you do.
good luck

well, sure...rebuilding is an option, but i'll be in debt for another 2 1/2 to 3 years if I go that route, whereas I can sell it and be debt free in about six months. Then, I can decide if I'm going to buy another FD or not. The ONLY reason I'm planning on selling it is so I can pay off my credit cards.

First, think about what you want to do long and hard. There arent a lot of real nice FD's any more, i mean there is but they are hard to find. Secondly if i were you i would cancel the insurance on it for now park it in the garage or driveway and throw a cover on top of it and save $$ like a ****. Pay off all your debts and save a certain amount for a new engine. You have a daily driver so i am assuming its possible for you. Do the right thing dude if i were you maybe i would get a second source of income temporarily and use that $$ for the new engine and labor costs.
In short i honestly dont think Mazda will be able to out do itself so easily with Ford at the helm (i am not bashing any future products or the RX-8) with a forth gen RX-7 so you may want to hold on to your car. Best of luck with your decision.

shoot, i've been thinking about this day and night for over a week now. the fact remains that financially, selling it is the best thing to do right now. yeah, it will be hard to find another real nice FD if and when i decide to buy another, but i can take my time and find what i want, and i won't have to worry about something else going wrong with the car and not having the *cash* to pay for it. as far as storing the car goes, i've thought of that, but i'd still have a $300/month car payment for another two years.
like i said, i don't want to sell it - i hate the idea - but i hate being in debt even more, and this is an opportunity for me to get out of that hole.

Where's the loyalty!!!! I agree with 2-rotor. Put a cover on it, get a second job, watch your expenses and save some cash. I work a second job just to support my 7 and my Ducati. Remember "You gotta pay to play". It can be done. You'll just have to work a little harder. Good luck dude but I know what I would do in your shoes.

Once I get myself settled financially, like I said, there's a chance I'll buy another FD. But not until I get myself straightened out and actually have some savings set aside.
Anyway, this is all off-topic. While I appreciate everyone's input and concern, etc, the real purpose of this thread was to get an idea of how much I should be asking for the car if I sell it with the motor blown.

You should know by now that nobody ever answers direct questions. Instead you get remarks like, "where's the loyalty". I've seen the car, it's worth $12K with a blown motor.
If I didn't have a baby coming I'd give you $12K for it right now.
