how to modify seat rails for tall driver?

hi all, i've heard mention of a way to modify the seat rails on 2 seater FD's that allows the drivers seat to go further back for taller drivers. before i rip the seat out and look at the rails can anyone give me any details on how to do the mod?

I have heard rumors the JDM rails didn't go back as far as the US rails, most likely due to the back seats in many of the models.

Might be easiest to get a used set of US rails - they shouldn't be that pricey or hard to find. My seat goes ALL the way back flush against the storage bins - they can't possibly go back further.

Might also just want to unbolt your seats, remove the rails, and examine them. Might be something as simple as a pin that's inserted in the rail that's preventing full range of travel - drill it out and you're good to go. I'm not sure, but that's possible.

I know we're not talking about headroom here, buy I understand that mounting them to the stock sliders does nothing to increase it?

David,

Custom brackets. Additional advantage: if anyone has to drive your car (service advisor, mechanic, or *shudder* valet) - no need to spend 5 minutes trying to find that perfect setting again. Oh, and the wife can't reach the pedals, so no worries there.

However, look at http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_acc.asp?id=155 or http://www.speedwaremotorsports.com/seat/hardware.asp. That second link includes sliders (I think) if you must have them for multiple drivers.

i'm 6'3" and with the seat full back i actually don't have a problem. BUT there is quite a bit of space between the back of the seat and the storage bins so i guess the JDM runners are different from usa fitment. just thought i'd modify them if it was an easy job

these guys in the uk seem to be importing lots and lots of cool 7's from japan, see their sold stock section from page 3

found out more about it

after removing the seats and flipping them upsidedown you grind and then drill off the seat slider limit rivet and then also drill out the dimple that also acts as a limit. with both rivet and dimple drilled out the seat can run all the way back until it hits the storage bins
