How many is tooooo many FD 7's?!?
I hear ya..
I guess here is the difference between FD and NSX owners.. and please, don't take this in a wrong way.. I say this because I think you understand where I'm coming from.. NSX owners will go buy an NSX based on dealership records and miles it has on. FD owners buy FD to mod and to drive... Most don't even give a damn about dealership records.. I don't.
Regarding reliability... I've seen NA rotaries go 200K without an issue.. Few REW I've seen go over 100K without an issue.. rare but I've seen it. I've seen Renesis go over 140K.. some of these lasted over 25 years. Also, Rotaries don't have to worry about timing belts
I'm not trying to argue with you, just stating NSX is bit hyped up as it costs 2x the FD but performance is marginal in comparison and potential isn't as good as FDs.. I guess maybe the looks is what people are after.. Again, I used to love these cars but now a hater of ALL Acuras

I agree with everything you're saying. When I bought the NSX, the only things I was looking for was a car that had the timing belt replaced recently, that was in good condition, and that wasn't in "snap-ring range." I could car less about dealership records. Then the snap ring broke anyway
...oh well. Also, my FB is (as far as I know) still on its original 26 year old engine...even if it only has 112k miles on it...still impressive. And my FD was on its original 90k mile 15 year old motor when I purchased it.
I think 2 would be the limit unless you have no other hobbies and/or are unemployed with a lot of money.
I have other hobbies and a GF and I find it very hard to be able to keep my current car up to par all the time. After my car gets into the 10's (very soon), it will be completed. Then I plan to pick up another RX7 which will have a V8 instead of a rotary.

That's VERY similar to what I eventually would like to have as well. I do think in the long-run I'll be more practical and cut it off at three maximum. I am itching to own a mint low-mileage stocker though!

I would love to have this in addition to my FD's
. I've been seriously considering whether an American Muscle car should be the next project for me. The tremendous amount of support, parts and service is what's most appealing.

Having more than 2 is a headache, I constanly have 3-5 fds at any given point and never has there been a point there were all up to par. It takes enough of ones spare time to get 1 fd up to the level one would expect it to be, let alone multiple personal fds. My 93 MB, stripped, caged hopefully soon to be track car is getting close to being finished and I am starting to look for a Chaste White 94 to have as a dd which if possible will only have a downpipe as the only mod.
I hope more end up in the hands of enthusiasts, there are few quality examples left out there today.

Well DJ, that was kind of my thinking going into it. I do agree it's a lot of work to maintain these cars, which is why as long as storage isn't an issue, I think it makes sense to own at least 2-3. Have 1-2 running, while you work on the other/s. I hate not being able to drive at least one of them when I feel like it.

I just wanted to add I think it's very interesting and pleasing to note that a LOT of people chiming in here would readily own at least 2, if they don't already. Bodes well for the future of our community and these cars!
Re Other Cars: Obviously, it's possible things might change in the near future and there might something else I'd like/want. At the moment though...nothing has replaced my liking of the 7. I *was* looking to purchase a motorcycle earlier, but I've decided to hold off on that. A few of my friends had some serious accidents within the past couple years. Made me realize how fortunate I was to have no issues in my riding experience.

I like RX7s as much as you do, hell I'm dying to buy one for that matter, but I honestly think you should give something else a try.
BTW talking about bikes, I just sold my ZX-10R this week and looking to buy a RX7, I don't think it can replace the adrenalin of a bike but I think it'll be the next best thing within my budget.
I think you already made up your mind but want others to agree that you're doing the right thing and feel good about your decision, however most in here said 3 is unnecessary and law of diminishing returns will apply. Listen to your brother and friends.

^^ Ive been there. I still own my 05 Kawi 636 also, but after my last accident I have changed my riding style and the amount I ride the bike. I have also focused more on my RX7. The bike just isnt worth the risk.
I used to stunt ride bikes a lot a couple years back which is pretty much the most adrenalin rush you can have. (until you get used to it) I never had any serious wrecks but a lot of my friends did, and riding bikes you hear a lot of the horror stories. Between the stories and my interest just kind of fading I switched back to focusing on the RX7, and rarely drive the bike anymore. I can tell you a 500+ hp rx7 is an adrenalin rush, it's just insane puts a grin on my face every time I stomp it. At this point it's more fun then the bike, but I did have some crazy fun riding with about 12 guys on bikes. Here's video and a couple pics just for ***** of crazy bike riding days.
1 is all I need, give others a chance to own one
other vehicles for the garage: NSX, Ferrari 360, '69 Camaro, Yamaha R6, Ducati, toyota 4x4 pickup with a gun rack
all a matter of time. ill probably get the NSX or pickup or both next year.

Riz... Get a nice older bike. You don't need the "fastest" canyon carver to have a great time and might be less likely to drop it. The new bikes are stupid fast, but they require a huge amount of focus and skill to keep the rubber side down. My Ducati probably does 140 and my Honda VFR does make 150, but I don't get over 100 all that much and then just for spurts. When I'm on one of my "home" motorcylce forums, like Ducati.ms, there are always guys asking how fast you have gone and there are guys saying, "I did 176" or whatever. That's nuts. You can have a great time on a bike at 60-80. Anyway, get a bike. Blows out the cobwebs.
I have thought about NSX's a lot and have it on my list of cars I might want to add someday. But, everyone tells me that if I like my FD. I won't like the NSX. I would buy an early one at a $30,000 price point, leave it stock and have it as a comfortable daily driver alternative to my BMW 850. However, I never thought the styling was anything special and the performance is "ok" at best without a lot of work. Friends like Brian Long who wrote both the "Rx7: Mazda's Rotary Sportscar" and "NSX - Honda's Supercar" and knows both cars well says I wouldn't like it.

That's something I've been considering Gordon. I don't see myself getting on another crotch rocket although I really do miss it
. The only motorcycle I'd like at this point is a custom chopper and those can get exponentially expensive. Plus, I had a couple very close calls that were entirely no fault of my own. I don't think Chicago is a good place to ride bikes, especially anywhere near the city.Re NSX: That's interesting because the debate always seems to come up: RX7 vs. FD. The only thing I've ever liked about the NSX is the styling. The price-tag and lack of performance is what deterred me.

As much as I enjoy watching it...I don't understand it or support it. I'm glad you had your fun and came out okay. Lots of people don't

I don't think this has anything to do with letting others own one. There are more than enough to go around. Besides, I've seen the condition some of these cars are in and it's pretty sad. At least I try my best to take care of mine.
I do like your other car/bike selections though. I wanted a Ducati for the longest time, but I'm deciding not to move forward with that plan anymore. I do plan on purchasing a 4x4 pickup though within the next year. I'm also looking in to the Toyota or possibly a Chevy or Ford.
Totally, if you take care of your sevens I say the more the better. Atleast there not getting destroyed by some idiot. I had 2 rx7's and a 300ztt at one point as long as one is relatively stock I think you would be good.
