How many is tooooo many FD 7's?!?
 

Hi,

So, the reason I ask this question is because I had a discussion with my brother and a couple friends last week in regards to this same topic. I've been telling them about my aspirations to own several RX-7's. Ideally, I'd like to have my street/show 7, a pristine stock 7, possibly keep my RHD or get an LSx 7, and eventually a purpose-built track 7. Realistically, I'll keep my street/show 7 and purchase a mint stock one soon.


I understand that I'm possibly obsessed with these cars, but at the same time I can definitely justify having two, but the third one is where they're debating with me. They keep saying that no one needs three of the same cars. My explanation is that it's not *just* a car for me nor will they be the *same*. They all keep insisting that I should look into purchasing another equivalent sports car. The problem is that nothing appeals to me the way these cars do, save exotics. And, unfortunately, I can't yet afford or justify owning an exotic I want.


I'm just wondering if owning 3 FD's is really too much? I know that a few owners on here own atleast 2, but I'm definitely interested to hear what the 3+ crowd has to say. Or even other owners who like myself aspire to add more to their collections. Please chime in...

If you $$$$$$$ situation can handle it I don't see any problem owning many 7's.... better have an engine hoist too, lots of R&R's gonna go down with that collection :D

If you have the monetary wherewithal I see no problem. Go for it and screw the naysayers. Nothing wrong with knowing what you like.

Most I had was 4 FD's at once.. 2 running and 2 not running. My thoughts were to have a track FD, show, daily, and something else... Very similar to yours,.. and about few years back. But as you can see on my sig. now, I've moved on and decide to own something else...

Sorry...guess I should have been more specific. This is a realistic possibility so not something I'm just putting out there for the sake of discussion. Shiiii...if I had unlimited cash flow I'd be owning more than 3+ that's for sure. Possibly an original RE-A!


I also do have the means to work on these and I do, so that's not an issue ;)

If i had room, i would probably want just 2 FD's, only because im a fan of other cars as well and i really want an MKIV supra.

The one FD would be my current one, where i will slowly build it to prinstine condition while driving it and maintaining it, maybe building it for a big more HP as well but to a conservative level. Then the other FD would be an LSx FD. Thats it. Then my supra and then a daily driver.

So thats 4 cars, really thats all anyone really needs, while being realistic.

If you have the money, the time, and the means... do what you want with life. You only get to live it once.

My next life is probably going to be as a towel head, so I am going to enjoy my RX7 to the fullest!

Im with 1QWIK7 on this one I want my rotary powered FD. If money was no option a 4 rotor. Then I would like an LSX FD but instead of the supra I really have always wanted an NSX for a pristine car that I will leave completely stock. Then I would probably buy a bmw for a daily. Its hard to really say though because if money is no option I might also start looking at porche's and Ferrari's.

O if money was no object, i wouldnt even bother with any more FD's or anything else. I would keep my FD still because i love it and i promised myself i would never sell it. I would still want a supra but since money is no object i want 1200hp of street DOMINANCE. Which supras are capable of doing.

Then get ferraris, lambos and bentleys lol

2 is enough for me, but I will one day have a cosmo for my gangster ass VIP project.

There is money and there is time. Even if you can afford the parts, you may not be able to afford all the little tinkering necessary to keep more than one running. It gets exhausting after a while unless you can take the car to a reputable shop for every little thing, and even dropping a car off takes time.

I had two Rx-7's at one point and I have a very high standard of maintenance for them. I could not keep up with all the little interior pieces that needed to be replaced, random noises that needed to be fixed, etc.

One is enough for me, I don't know if I could handle all the headaches associated with having multiple fd's. Time for a 993 anyway.

ehh there are way to many cars out there id like to buy/build, turbo'd nsx, e30 bmw ls1, 2.5rs w/ sti swap, drift 240, just to name a few, but i will always have the fd

After a while, the FD, like ANY car, gets old. Oh, don't get me wrong...I love mine and plan on never selling it, but I am perfectly content in spending just a few hours a month in it. No reason to have any more of them, other than to have a show car perhaps. I wouldn't mind having a 3 rotor powered, DuPont CHROMALUSION painted garage queen show car in addition to the FD that I have, but that would be enough for me. Just my opinion, though.
But as others have said...do what you want, what floats YOUR boat and say to hell with anyone who tells you otherwise!

hahaha this is why you would hire awesome mechanics so you can just spend time just enjoying the FD and when you do work on your own car, it will be for fun and not necessity.

I've always wanted
-pristine low mileage stock FD
-LSx FD for a dd
-3-rotor FD for the awesome
-nicely done 2-rotor for fun

I would definitely want an NSX as well. I'm so glad these Japanese supercars are relatively cheap and somewhat within reach. It would be sad if we couldn't own the cars we obsess over so much.

Riz if you have the means to do this, please do it for the people who can't (me).

I really only want 2 FDs, the one I am building now, being N/A 20B and more of a race-oriented setup, and after that is complete I really, really want a CYM, which I would leave relatively stock. Just some nice bolt ons, wheels and suspension. I honestly sometimes think of selling mine and looking for a nice CYM instead, but I really want both. As much as I love FDs, there are alot of other great cars to experience for me to just focus 100% on FDs forever. I really want an NSX, and for some reason I want to build an old celicaGT with an F22c.

i would have 7... 7 rx7s ...mmm just sounds right

if they still made new ones it'd be one thing, but with the age of the car the upkeep is just so much to handle, even if you can easily afford it.

cars i would rather have over my FD are.
1. 1969 camaro ss with a 427 modern fuel injected LS7
2. 2005 Audi s4 twin turbo V8

I almost had a chance to own a real ss back in 1995. It was just a roller no engine or transmission. they wanted $5000. I was maybe 14 years old so my dad didn't take me seriously.

lol interesting topic, currently i own 1 fd and 3 fc's ive thought about ditching the fc's for either another FD or an rx8 as a dd.

Well i run with the FC fleet because FD's are to expensive. i have 3 fc's and would like as many as i can get. If i had FD's i would take as many as i could get on good deals and good condition but thats me. i hate all the exotic cars, porsche ect ect. If I was you i would buy another one. If you could afford it then do it whats it gonna hurt? when your 70 you will probably be proud you owned that many and will tell storys about them all the time.
