How many times can you rebuild?

Whats up everyone,I'm currently looking for my first FD after owning an '95 240sx for a long time. I really do find this site extremely informative and have been reading and studying for almost a month on this site alone. I have always had an interest in FD's but really never actually considered it. Now I think that I am ready to take the plunge and I have actively looking for my car. Anyways, I was wondering that if an has been rebuilt once already, can you rebuilt it again?

Well hopefully I can find one over the winter and maybe meet up w/ some members from the NE in the springtime. Once again I'm happy to meet you all.

You have to remember, an engine is basically a pile of parts. At rebuild time, you go through the parts, spec each out, pitch what isn't reusable and replace what is.

Rotors and rotor housings frequently aren't re-usable, as far as the large hard parts. It also depends on what is wrong with the motor. You can also get a remanned engine from Mazda quite inexpensively.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I was just thinking about a worst case scenerio that I if bought a car and down if something were to happen. I hear what your saying about the cause of a failure. Hopefully I will have a good chance to do the things that can be done to help the engine run cooler among other things. Got any links for a Mazda remanned engine? Thanks again.

The common worst-case is when the engine grenades and takes out a side housing, center housing, rear or front housing, rotor, and turbos. And with each rebuild you'll install a gasket kit around $1500. Each of the parts I listed costs around $500 new, except a good set of stock turbos which are $500 used.
