Me... I can't remember a time in the nearly 3 years I've owned my FD that I HAVEN'T had a problem... And as of right now I have BAD coolant seal issue that causes my car to spit up coolant constantly. Time for a rebuild, but I'm building my business first.... =(

Just fixed a problem about an hour ago, and I have plenty more problems to fix.

I've owned my fd for nearly 3 years... and I think I had it worked perfectly TWICE. Where it drove perfect, boosted perfect, ran beautifully...

1.) Was just after I replaced my engine, broke it in, and started boosting on my new set of stock twins. She pulled perfectly with a 12-8-12 pattern.

2.) When I had my TD08 single install done, and I had everything finished. She was boosting 23psi and running strong.

The twins setup developed a vac leak and starting causing problems...

The single setup I eventually blew the engine for lack tuning and my strong attraction to freeway medians.

Now I'm on a T51r KAI and she's running well with Steve Kan's tune.. but there are a lot of minor bugs. Nothing too major right now.. just little things that add up.

Well. I've owned the car 2 weeks, driven 2200 or so miles in that time, and man it works flawlessly. Granted, I need to get a big SMIC and put the midpipe on and tune it. But right now boosting 7psi and rich as Bill Gates, she feels strong, can't wait for atleast 10. Knock on wood.

And yes, I know 2 weeks isnt that long of a time. But thats quite a few miles.

Not enough for me to sell the car. I'm not sure if I'm sane enough to come to that point though.

No one should be surprised at ANY maintenance or 'breakage' issue with these cars. Keep in mind that the NEWEST ones are still 11 years old! And these were pretty highly stressed cars anyway, kind of fragile to start with. Yes, I too (as well as EVERYBODY else) have had to fix some things, but....they STAY FIXED if you do it right.

I'm a person that has always driven cars for long terms. I'll keep some of my vehicles for 10 - 15 years and do the required maintenance on them to keep them mechanically sound.
Shoot....I've got a little '86 B2000 pickup that I would not hesistate to take cross country and back again, even with 200,000 miles. Why? Because it has had maintenance done with new parts put on as required.

It is just something you can expect with older vehicles.

If you are suffering multiple failures of the same component....then THAT is not good and needs to be looked into much more closely.

Perhaps the question should be phrased in terms of how many problems have I not had, lol. I've owned my FD for 5 yrs and only put about 4000 miles on the car. It is not a daily driver to say the least. It is now up to apx 47K and those are orig miles. The car came to me with problems and then I had some that occured in the last 5 yrs but I think if I'd been the only owner instead of number 3, it would not have had most of them. What I've been learning is that everything on this car is maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. I believe the other 2 owners may thought this was a toyota corolla or something. Also I believe it is hard to have this car and not drive it fairly hard. All cars, even super-cars break when you drive them hard. It is a well known fact that many FDs get the coolant seal problem and need rebuilding starting as early as around 50K. This seems to be an achilles heel of the car or more precisely turbo charged rotaries. These cars need to be babied. Just like the R & T article that came out in 1993 said, these cars are "fussy and fragile." The article also stated that they are a "true driver's car." (Hope I didn't screw up those quotes).
