The new Lotus only gets 150-180 max! But then it has a 7.6 gal tank!

 

I get 30+ MPG on mine....so with 20 gallons X 30 MPG = 600 MILES!!!!

Yep...checked my math. 411 miles on the trip odo / 16.2 gallons at the pump = 25.37 mpg

If you're trying to say no one should ever be able to get 21-22 mpg I'd say you need to correct your blanket statement. My car is a 5M touring (no wing) that was bone stock at the time with 41k on it. I had the cruise set at 83-84 mph most of the way from Albuqurque NM to just short of Tucson AZ (Benson). There was a brief ?40? mile stint in there on a 2 lane shortcut to Deming NM at 73-74 mph. I believe I passed two or three vehicles on that two lane hitting the top of third gear (and sometimes part of fourth) each time too.

I'm sure if I went slower and didn't romp on it as many times as I did the mileage could have been even better. Heck...I'm pretty sure this thing has the factory original O2 sensor. Regardless I don't think you'll hit 30 mpg but I don't think 27-28 mpg on the highway is completely out of reach.

Now if it's just a misunderstanding and you forgot to specify you were talking about city mileage...so far I agree with you 100%. 15.4-15.9 mpg is all she'll do for me and half of my 10.5 mile drive to work is on a relatively flat road at 54 mph. Of course I romp on it at least once a day but I think alot of the wasted gas is the factory tune. Hopefully with the wideband in the car 24/7 and some hard work leaning out the idle/cruise mileage will improve. Wishful thinking though...may not work out if the car's driveablity starts to suffer like I suspect it might.

Some of you guys' gas mileage numbers are horrible...modified or not. I can understand the weekend cars getting beat on almost constantly and the track only numbers but if you guys commute/daily drive with that tune you really should spend some time & effort leaning things out.

Freeway miles are going to be greater then town miles. Everybody is going to very depending on mods, driving style and car condition.

Consider yourself lucky if you get more then 12 miles to the gallon in the city.

No, I said if you average more than about 21-22 mpg, check your math. If your math is correct, count yourself lucky.

An average is just that... some fast, some slow, a combination of normal driving. If you filled at a gas station just off the highway and drove down the highway drafting a semi and coasting on the hills, then refilled at another gas station right off the highway, I'm sure you'd get better results too. But is that average driving? No.

The best I ever saw, even with mostly highway driving was about 21-22 mpg. That's not limping around, but it's not a dozen high speed runs in a row either. In town, I rarely got better than about 14-15 mpg with no or very little highway driving. Again, not limping around, and maybe a few "spiritied" take offs, but not floored from corner to corner either.

City? Yeah, right.

 

Luckily I don't ever drive "city" miles (i.e. a lot of stop and go)... where I live requires a bit of miles before you get into "town." most of the drives I've done with the RX were to and from work -- 25 miles and only hit 5 stoplights.... a nice 11 miles at a steady 50mph another 11 miles at a steady 75mph, and the rest is 35-40mph, with a few lights... that gets me about 17mpg or so... I'd hate to see stop and go traffic MPG in an RX!

 

Never seen 200 mark! Well, actually, I only saw 210 - 220 once. Other than that, it's been 160-180 miles.

I'm with you man. The few times that I let it get all the way down to empty I was never able to put any more than 16 gallons in it. Did all fd's come with the same 20 gallon tank?

I can get about 300 miles by the time the hand hits my 1/4 mark. Normal driving which includes some 100 digit jaunts and other sudden pedal drops. The times I've measured the miles per gallon, it's around 20 to 21 mpg with the same driving habits.

usually about 200 or so - around town, commuting, spirited driving mostly freeway. ive been able to lately go from about 11mpg to 13mpg to 15mpg between fills -has to do with heavy foot / light foot syndrome.
but who worries about gas mileage when you drive an fd.

i filled up with almost 17.5 gallons the other day and my odometer read just over 200 miles. . . like 218 or something. . . isnt that nice. hahahaha

17.5 gallons. . . i was like, "WHOA. . . I REALLY PUSHED IT!!!!"

I average right at 200 miles for 17gallons with 100% stop & go city traffic. With this type of driving I decided it was more accurate to measure usage in Minutes per gallon. haha
