1546 in TX per above thread. If we could get every state to check in here we could get an accurate count.

I would like to know.

That info looks like it was taken out of a "polk" manual which is a vehicle population book put out by the DMV or someone like that each year... I think there really expensive too.... I use to work for OTC/SPx which makes scan tools and speciality vehicle tools and they had these manuals there....

Best estimates place the number between 6884 and 6917. Keep in mind that the DMVs of the various states often have out-of-date info, meaning the list is usually at least one or two years old. A lot of cars get lost in that time period...hell, look at the number of wrecks listed in the Forum over the last couple of years. Also throw in the fact that some of the cars that were "totaled out" at one time or another may live again, though this is likely a small percentage....say 100 cars or less in North America.

15-20 FDs with salvage titles at one Maryland BBQ? Amazing.

Also throw in the fact that some of the cars that were "totaled out" at one time or another may live again, though this is likely a small percentage....say 100 cars or less in North America.

Bajaman was talking about the number totaled by insurance companies and then brought back to life (salvage title).

baja,

could you please explain where you came up with 6884-6917? I know that there are many sources who cite 138xx FDs produced for the US from late 91 to late 95, but where did this data come from citing that number? very interested in finding out

Yes, I'd like to know too. Here's a thread from last year which asked the same question and "salamander" mentioned 3300.

That number was sourced from Cameron Worth of Pettit Racing, and it seems like a more reasonable number to me that after 10 years only a quarter, rather than over half of these cars are actually still around.

I know its not much, but I have a rebuilt title FD. It was a "total vehicle loss" as the car was stolen, stripped like hell, and left for dead. I gave her a second chance If you were to look on auto-trader. . . . .just about every last FD from NorthEast Florida has a rebuilt title. . .

I've always heard 3k-4k?? But that's what I've heard..

It makes more sense since only 13-15k were brought over and its been about 10 years.. thats about what 10% per year??
Of course I do seen these unreal FDs popping up once in awhile with 2k miles on it..
