I blow a typical puff of oil smoke on cold startup but between changes every 1500-2000
miles I never have to add any.
I have heard of guys using a quart or more every 500-1000 miles even running their
cars easy ??

You do know that between the F & L marks on the dipstick = 1.6 US quarts and you should add a qt any time the level is below 1/3 on the hatched area don't you? The Oil Metering Pump should be injecting 1 qt in 1000-1500 miles depending on driving style.
Mine consumes about 1qt/450mi due to leaky Turbo Oil seals.

engine life
I had 4 rx7's over the years. Everyone had the original motor. !st gen until 120,000 miles. 2nd gen from 28,000 to 98,000 miles. No problems and I had intake, exhaust and upped the boost to 10.5 lbs. with a pfc f-con ecu piggy back. 3rd gen until 45,000 miles then sold it.
Now- mint fd with 26,000 miles. Runs lile a champ. Play it safe- 94 octane with premix and no mods. But, that may change soon.

god damn, talk about being born under a bad sign... i've owned my '93 base FD for almost 6 years now and am on my 6th motor... and just today it started idling *really* low for no apparent reason, only 284 miles since it was put in... my fingers are crossed, but i'm getting used to dropping in new motors as often as i have to purchase new tires..

Bought my 2nd FD over two years ago with approx. 70000mi. The engine gave up at around 106K in Sept.2001.Got the new engine intalled in Dec.2001 and have since put on 3K. So far so good. My fingers are always crossed.

Just went over 80k on the original motor. Still pulls like a ****'.
Just had to replace the turbos last month.
I've had it for 4 years and installed the mod's listed below when I
first got it (had 35k miles when I got it). I consistently run her hard
and run 13.5PSI I guess I've just been lucky!
Knock on wood!!!

I've noticed a lot of people replacing their engines due to the "coolant" seals". How can I tell if mine are going bad and how can I prevent this?

Had a 93 with engine replaced at 90k and turbo's at 110 later sold with 138k and no problems. Currently have a 94 with 59k orignal motor but replacing the turbo's now but was running 14lbs of boost. Also have a 93 with 39k original motor. Premix is just 2 cycle oil mixed with each tank of gas usually 4 oz's per tank as extra percaution for to protect the seals on the rotors. If the Oil metering pump is working its not necessary just recommended for extra protection.

93 montego blue touring. 1st motor went at 53,000. Due to overheat cuz of broken AST toasting o-rings and water housing gaskets. Turbos were also rebuilt. Currently 2000 miles on rebuilt 2nd motor. I hope this one will last. I heard the pre-mix is good but is it really necessary if i change the oil every 2000 miles. I've heard some say it only helps but isn't necessary. Then others say don't even bother using it since you change the oil every 2000. Hmmmm?
