How long have you waited?
6 weeks.
There is no way in hell I would ever leave my car at a shop for 7 months waiting on something like a motor. If me and my car are not important enough to get it done, then **** 'em.

In that case, the longest that I was "down" 3 months doing some suspension work which wound up killing my dinky PC680 battery, which wound up killing my starter from constant jumping. It was over a cold, snowy winter where I wouldn't have driven the car anyway so not much of a loss.
Mine went down about 7 months ago and I haven't touched it yet. lol I bought an '03 protege and parked the FD until I graduate and have time to work on it. The plan is to have it running again by fall with some major upgrades.
waited 7 months after i sent the motor back from shipping damage twice! then 2 more waiting for the blizzard in ohio to end so i could trailer it 10 hours. finally on the road 400 miles from meth, boost, and tune. will see how much whp!
8 months. Had to wait for car to get here. Then i took my time buying parts, had to strip the motor down cause the middle iron decided to crator itself, then i had to rebuild it, have to finish the auto to 5spd swap, and throw everything back in :S hopefully it'll be done this weekend or the next
Wow, I have been down for two years or more, have just about everything.....Started www.azrotaryrockets.com and work for Paul Yaw so I have been busy......lame excuss I know.
2 weeks to conclude motor rebuild was the only way to fix the cars problems, 1 week for rebuild. And these short weeks were painfull for me. I'd go crazy waiting 7 months etc. :P

8 months just passed, and I'm pulling the motor as we speak. Took an hour Sunday and another 2 hours yesterday and it's ready to come out. I've never turned wrenches in my life, but I have a somewhat decent grasp on indentifying parts and common sense will get me through most of it, the rest I will have someone else do so I don't have another motor go at 25k miles for stupid reasons.
So it sat for basically 8 months untouched other than getting interior parts and cleaning all that up. As soon as I find an engine hoist to borrow or rent one if I can't get one by this weekend, it will be out and I'll take it apart and see what it needs and get some help on the rebuild. But I plan on cleaning the living hell out of the engine bay, cleaning all the under carriage and having it sprayed with a bed liner like substance to prevent rust and whanot, new brakes pads and rotors, port the motor, etc. Sticking with my 99 spec turbos if they are in good shape upon inspection, if not I'll drop a good set of twins in for now.
Hopefully sometime in the next 2-3 months, another FD will be back on the road, and hopefully it will be mine

5months. But it took that long because I was doing it myself for the first time and was working fulltime + extra overtime during my co-op/internship. Proud to say that she's done now
