Not sure about the replacement housings.

I did find a source for a Catz HID H4 setup, with the 5400k ultrawhite bulbs. $550. Low beam only. I think that's a great deal since they were $700 before and now they're illegal! Do you think not having a high beam is much of an issue? I only drive my FD in the city and never use hi-beams. I've also read that with a good HID conversion (such as the CATZ) you don't need hi-beams as the brightness exceeds the stock hi-beams.

roadsterdoc, check the link i posted earlier! that seller on ebay sells the Dual/ High and low beam HID 4300K Catz HID for $499 or so. 4300 is the nicest HID you are ever going to find, street legal and not to mention dual beam for cheap

Cant miss his deals!

I've got the dual high/low Catz rising white HID's and I love them. Now I just need to get the new housings in!
And yes having the high beam is still nice.

Funny this thread should come up now. I was driving back to my house one night and I had my Hi beams on and I came to a stop at an intersectoin waiting to turn left. Low and behold, a cop pulls up directly across from me in the turn lane. I debated switching them off, but them he would think something was up, so I left them on and he didn't even notice ( I know this cause Arlington,TX cops will pull you over for anything) RX7 headlights suck. So I an the Idea, if you ever watch the option videos alot of the drifters **** their headlights halfway by means of a resistor box. I think you could do this and replace the headlight with a projector lens and a fog light. I now that they make flush mount kits, but I like the look of the pop ups especially with the 99 spec lights.

Yup guys, turns out both housings are for 2nd gens only, and it would be hard to get them to fit into our housings without a good amount of work put into it. You could squeeze them in with some minor cutting, but they woiuld be non adjustable then.

I may have mentioned this earlier; one of the reasons why I think that the FD headlights blows is that while they do have great peripheral lighting, so much of the light is spread and diffused that there is less light rays left to illuminute further away.

Just think of it as the antithesis as a magnifying glass.........

ive been playing with lots of lights now for awhile.. I have tryed many different style of bulbs.. I dotn feel like dishin out for the HID's.. I am currently running a special 100/130watt bulb in mine now and there pretty decent.. I have tryed a few Eurolight brands Many PIAA and a few Hella brand bulbs.. I am not much of a fan of hyperwhites anymore.. a 135watt hyperwhite blub preforms like a 80watt normal halogen bulb.. So I try and stick to normal halogen bulbs now. I have some pics I can put up for comparasion ill try and find them now..

Theses test we both have the Hella H4 upgrade kit.. It has glass lenses and both still have the cover thing in the middle of the light..

He is useing the standard 55/60 watt lights that come with the kit.. no hyperwhites or anything..
heres my buds low beams

His high beams

Heres my setup with the "special" 100/130watt Halogen bulbs

Lowbeams

Highbeams

I used to have a set of PIAA 910 driving lights but they got stolen with my last car that was stolen. So i ahve searched for awhile to find some decent ones and have setteled with these.. Just regular Hella 100watt H3 bulbs in these

My lowbeam + driving lights

I think a good set of driving lights are a MUST if you into any type of backroad dark lighting "sporty" driving..

I have some more pics of a buds PIAA 135 watt hyperwhites jsut no place to host them right now Anyways i hope this helps a bit.. I wish I had some hids there to test with me

Those pics look awefully fishy since the direction of the beam and headlight location don't appear to be consistent.

not to mention the part where u have lights and the headlight is down

Alright, I just finished my HID setup on my FD. I was stuck between buying a sleek light kit with HID's or just sticking with the popups. I stuck with the popups due to the price of the conversion kits. The only problem with using the popup's is that there has been a new law passed in the US that says you cannot install an HID light into a headlight housing that was build for a halogen bulb. This is why they do not sell anymore HID kits for our cars.

To solve the problem I decided to go to my local junkyard and pick up a set of Audi HID lights (Audi uses a 5100 power bulb). I bought the whole headlight assembly from an A6 which included the Hella ballasts, projectors, cables, housings, and HID bulb (cost $260). The only problem is that the the Audi bulb does not fit into the stock headlight housing. To solve this problem I made a metal bracket that attached to the bulb and made it fit into the stock position. Next, I wired the ballast to the power wires (12v) from the low beams to the ballast's and put it all back together. Currently everything works great and I would say that I have about 40 percent more visability than stock. The only downfall is that I do not have highbeams and technically they are illegal.

After reading this post I am going to remove the non-reflective metal peice inside the housing and see if there is any difference.

If this does not work I am going to devise a plan for installing the Audi A6 projectors into the stock headlight housing. This will produce a direct cut off line as well as a magnified HID beam pattern. Although this is difficult to install due to the amount of space behind the stock housing. Audi projectors are abnormally large which does not make the situation any better. The best projector to use in this situation would be from either a 350z or Jag. They use unussually small projectors but still produce great light.

I will try to post pictures in the next day or so.

Really can't tell much from your photos, because the cars (and headlights) apparently aren't in the same spot, and much of the light pattern depends on where the headlights are aimed. Also, the camera's aperture/shutter speed makes the photos deceiving, because as much as we'd like them to, there's no way an H4 or H3 bulb-- even a "135 watt" (which, if correct, would make me watch the wiring leading to the headlight assembly, as there's a good chance the excessive resistance on the stock gauge wiring when running high beams would cause them to get hot enough to melt the insulation)-- would light up the road that much by itself.

even if the camara played a small part in it where i ama sure it does.. the camara stayed in the same place and used the same settings for both bulbs.. So you get an idea

Where did you buy these "special" 100/130watt bulbs? Do you have pictures of your driving lights (front shot of the car or close up of them)?

Theres two different cars in those pictures. The car thats visible is his friends car. The other car is his. You can see the shadow of his car in one pic and part of the bumper in the other.

the 'special' 100/130 watt bulbs will be labeled 'for off-road use only' , should be available from most bulb companies, though they won't be as easy to find.

Here's a decent site:

http://suvlights.tripod.com/suvlightscom/

Our lights are HB2, according to the owners manual.

PIAA makes bulbs close to those wattages.

But it's still nothing compared to the HID.
