Nice set up! I wanna see some Defi's INSIDE the dash, though (or in front or a block off plate) I just don't like the idea of redundancy

What do you guys think. Not defi but you think they look good?

Took about 3 hours from start to now (not quite done yet) to remove all gauges modify white under part and align and reassemble cluster. I like it better than having the stock two gauges and then two other of the same type. Still trying to decide if I want to paint the needle red or not.

LOL...I only got 6. Didn't get the A/F gauge because a) it's not very useful, b) it's almost impossible to get ahold of Frank's 4 gauge center speaker pod haha

This is very common in race cars with analog gauges, going back to the 60's and earlier I believe. I've never seen it done stock in any roadgoing cars though. If you do end up doing this I'd be interested to see some pics and hear how difficult (or not) it was to do.
I'm not very handy w/ this kind of stuff, so if I were to ever do it, it would prob. be at one of the local Porsche performance shops...in which case I wouldn't be able to tell you how hard it is. I would be able to tell you expensive it was -- rather how cheap it was, cuz I wouldn't pay too much to have that done.

I think it looks hot. Nice work man. My only thing would be paint both the needle and those longer marks that are currently in yellow, all to red. That would be nice...

The oil light is for oil level, not pressure. In the case of a leak, the light could be handy.

I vote that an oil pressure gauge, while nice, is not absolutely necessary. It's kind of a nice thing to keep an eye on, but as SgtBlue eluded to, if you aren't watching it like a hawk, it is marginally useful. Fortunately, FDs don't have much/any problem with oil pumps suddenly failing.

Hmmm...there's an oil light w/ buzzer? I didn't know there was a buzzer connected to it (I'm glad I don't know hehe)

And no, it doesn't follow that every light has a buzzer, because the tach doesn't have a light, but it does have a buzzer.... and the fuel gauge has a light but no buzzer...

Good point. It's been so long since I've driven my car that I forgot.

I can testify to the light and buzzer coming on immediately after a failure of one of the hoses to the oil cooler (and subsequent loss of all oil pressure), which prompted me to shut off the engine and coast to a stop. That was, of course, after I controlled the fishtailing caused by several quarts of oil hitting the left rear tire while accelerating past 80 mph @ 15 psi.

Fortunately, FDs don't have much/any problem with oil pumps suddenly failing.
Agreed.

Not to mention the 6-7 kilometer walk to Trev Dagley's dad's house at about 2:00 in the morning to get several more quarts of oil and the oil hoses from my original engine which I had specifically asked him to use instead of the hoses on the junkyard engine that we swapped in.

Tell me about it. Here's a post I made a couple years ago with more detail...

"After we replaced the engine with a junk yard temporary, we took it out for a test run and it blew one of the oil hoses off the oil cooler and slicked the back tires. After controlling the sideways skid at 80 mph, I coasted with 0 oil pressure into a BP station where the rest of the oil in the system went on the ground. This was, of course, at about 1:00 AM, when "all good things happen". After running over to a Safeway to buy some more oil, my trusty mechanic Trev claimed to have recoupled the oil lines. I dumped in the oil, fired it up, and immediately we had another 5-quart slick under the car. We ended up walking 6 miles to his house, grabbed the oil line and hose off my first engine and some more oil, drove back and got the car running and then limped it home at 5:00 AM. And that, folks, is how I ended up with a ruined hood liner, an engine bay doused in oil, the underside of the car coated with grime, and a second engine in the car, even though I only had about 8,500 miles on the odometer at the time."

If you do mean me, and not FDNewbie with his 1200 dollars worth of beautiful instrumentation, then thanks. I really like the way it turned out and Im going to try and black out the yellow, since I dont think painting it would be possible (would take hours to tape off). Then I will prob get a white or red decal for the oil symbol and the temp symbol.

Got any ideas to help me make the yellow red?

LOL! Hey, sometimes it's the pure simplicity of things that makes them so beautiful. No doubt your setup is awesome...ESP if you wanna retain the stock and low-key look. Props to ya.

Unfortunately, no. But then again, you don't want to ask me. I'm not very savvy when it comes to hands on stuff like this.
