SK How to i get this Downpipe out

Trying to get my turbos out to clean them up without taking the engine out, im trying to get the down pipe out right now and after countless times trying to pry it apart and trying different angles there's no use it wont come off the studs.
HOW THE "F" DO I GET IT OUT WITHOUT TAKING THE ENGINE OUT

tips please and thank you!

Hm, RHD sucks in this regard. If you have aftermarket 'puck' type motor mounts you can remove the long bolts that pass through them and carefully pry the engine to the side and try and gain clearance. You also can soak the downpipe studs in PB Blast and try and double nut them to loosen them. Doubt that'll work though.

Also undo the bolts that hold the steering shaft together, allowing it to come off the steering rack. I usually also undo the steering column top and bottom under the dash. That will leave plenty of room to get the downpipe off and start on the turbos.

hm, you could try unbolt engine mount from frame, disconnect oil line and partial wire harness, use a wooden block and push the tranny up a little with a jack to gain clearances. Than pry it off. Might seem a lot of steps but it's better than pry it against steering column and hope it will bent and slip past the steering column imo.

Looking for old threads on this...unsuccessfully so far. It seems that this is a damned near impossibility on RHD cars...

With my RHD.... (done it a few too many times) Do as stated above, undo everything that is needed to 'hoist' the engine (put jack + wood under tranny) lift it up till basically the tranny touches the top... Lots of room to pull it out, and o having to fiddle around with the steering splines trying to get it realigned...

Is it a stock DP, or aftermarket...

Hey guys got it off, I undid three of the bolts on the steering column that runs beside the down pipe, and slipped it apart and moved it out of the way. then there's a heat shield or something that got in the way of the down pipe that I pried against and bent flush with the frame and slipped the down pipe back after having to take the exhaust all off.
So for future reference: How to remove down pipe successfully on right hand fd3s's is ^

I own a RHD as well and have taken the dp off a few times. Easiest way to do it is just undo the two bolts that hold the steering shaft together, lining up the spindles on the shaft is very easy so don't worry about it, take the shaft apart and you will have all the room you need.

I couldn't get mine off the studs or remove the heat shield, but as I was removing the engine it wasn't really an issue (DP fell off when the engine started going up).

My studs were not hard to remove, if yours are similar you could remove them to get the DP out.
