Question How hard is it to sell moded FD?

I am in the process of fixing up my FD. Right now it has 14k original miles on it. I plan on moding this car to the max. Single turbo, street port, body kit, everything. I will probably have spent 20k on the whole thing in the next couple years.
'
I was wondering if I could ever sell this car for a good price or will I have to give the thing away.

I just got the car 3 months ago and already spent close to 4k on dp, cb, gauges, suspension, headunit ect...

I was just curious as to what people have bought, new or moded. pesonally I would want my car to be untouched.

A meavily modded would be harder to sell I would think. More expensive if something were to go wrong.

look to spend more than $20k. also, if you are planning to sell it in the future, why mod it? logically, it makes no sense. if you were to sell it modded, you wouldnt get anything close to what you would have spent on it.

You wil NEVER make the money back that you put in the car. If you have ANY intention of EVER selling it I wouldnt mod it to the max.

or at least keep all the stock parts and make sure it's easy to turn back to stock. A really modded RX7 can maybe sell for 23K or so nowadays. The market isn't great, so who knows.

modding that car is a damm shame..

If you want to make an FD all aftermarket and **** you
should buy a 93 red touring with 100k on it. Cheap and
theres alot of them. Putting a body kit on a 7 with 14k
original miles is like drawing a tatoo on the Mona Lisa.
Nothing pisses me off worse than the bastard who put
a vailside body kit on an original CYM.. what a dumb
***. Not saying that your making that big of a mistake
but I deff would strive for the stock look.

I would try to keep it in as close the stock condition as possible if you plan on getting rid of it someday. Modded cars don't sell as well for three reasons....Price, Reliabilty, and Complex nature. Therefore, mod it all you want, but do it intelligently.

I agree. Especially in your case, what you have is a very rare FD. Its very hard to find an FD with that kind of miles, making your car worth more then 18g i would think. You can spend 20g on your FD and try to sell it but your never gonna get your money back. Many people rather build up their own car and see it grow. We all got different taste and preference.

As a buyer, I wouldn't mind if it was modded a little bit, but when it's heavily modded, I think most people assume it's been raced heavily, and would think twice about purchasing a car that might have been abused. On the other hand it could be a garage queen, but the buyer couldn't really assume that much. Get the odometer registered so that it shows up on Carfax so buyers can in fact see that the mileage is that low when you decide to sell.

An FD with 14k original miles? and you want to modify that thing?? I'm sorry, but what an idiot!! Put that thing on stands in the garage and cover it up ... an FD in that condition is becoming harder and harder to find now days ... in fact, i'd almost wager it's impossible.

Like someone said before, if you want to modify an FD, get a 93 with a blown motor ... then you can get a rebuild/streetport and do all the mods you want on it ... color doesn't matter because you'll paint it when you get the body kit.

Your car is worth a small fortune ... why bring the value down by putting a bunch of aftermarket crap on it ... the car is practically new!!!

just my $.02

Which is exactly the reason i stayed away from all the heavily modified 7's ...

Exactly what I feel. I plan to heavily mod my car that I just bought but it is a 93 with a salvage title. If you have a beautiful car with low miles. Very lightly mod it for reliability but NO MORE!!!! You kill this car and everybody should kick you where they please!!!!

Yeah, the only mods I'd do to a FD with 14K is a silicone vacuum job, radiator, and downpipe. Even keep the stock exhaust. Leave everything else alone. I saw a stock FD today and I was jealous. If you keep the miles low on that it will be worth money one day - a very heavily modded (well maintained) FD that hasn't seen track use and never been launched (like mine ) can sell for $18K - $24K depending. You;ll never, ever get your money back out of the car that you've put in.

there was a 3-rotor rx7 that was on ebay for 40k and nobody bidded on it i dont think. that just shows that the values of modded 7's aren't much more than clean and unmodded ones.

I would say do what you want. It's your car. If someone chooses to buy your car after you have modded it, they they're either lucky or un-lucky(depending on how well you take care of it).

Why own a car if you can't enjoy it? My car came with the equivalent of 28,000 MILES on it. Now look at it. You mean to tell me that I would be STUPID for modifying my car?

You won't get the money back that you have spent into it, but who cares? Your car would look good, perform better and most importantly, YOU would be happy.

Ahh come on jspec. Who can't possible be happy with a stock fd? You be one messed up **** if a stock fd doesn't tickle your FinKL enough. I understand where everyone is coming from though. But he even specifically states that this will take years to achieve. He isnt pulling an AARoatary on us guys . Stop being the christeners of the Rotary Gods and start acting like car enthusiasts . Of course I'm sure I will eat my words soon enough .

Yeah, but it seems that everyone's jumping on his back for wanting to modify his 7. Let him do what he wants!(no neon lights though...I'll go to Jersey to kick your tail) It's taken me quite some time to learn the small little things about my 7 that I love, but it was all worth it. Now I've got 35,000 miles on my engine. WHOOOHOOO! Single turbo coming my way SOON!

Nice avatar btw!
