how hard to install a clutch and flywheel?
I am planning on purchasing an ACT clutch and 9.5# flywheel. Does anyone have instructions on how to install it and how hard it is? If it is a PITA then I will take it to get installed but want to know if I can do it myself and save some $$$.

You can do it on your own but if you are asking yourself if you are capable or not, I would lean towards letting someone else do it.
Lots of us have done it. The real bitch is the flywheel nut and manhandling the tranny in and out. There are plenty of posts here; do a quick search.

Just use a floor jack to get the trany out. Put it under the flat spot. Install it in the reverse of how you take it out.
It takes me an hour to get the car up on jackstands and remove the trany. And about an hour and a half to put it back in with out messing with the flywheel.

dude it is pretty easy. a few things for your list to have
1). 2 1/8 socket for flywheel 3/4
2). aircompressor (at least 350 foot pound)
3). a friend to pull it out of car
4). car lift (i was lucky my step-dad has one in his garage w/heat +)
5). clutch alignment tool or make one with a c.a.t & electric tape
6). some cold beer
7). you may want to replace idle bearing, oil seal, rear main seal since it will be out.
8). you need a special tool to get out the idle bearing (sst)

You can get them from the dealer but it may be faster from someone like MazdaComp.
You will need a 70mm socket to take the flywheel off. I got mine a sears for 80$, after using returned.
The fly wheel does not just come off either. I had to do a trick which I will share with you. When you get the nut loosened screw it out the the end of the shaft. Apply a wood wedge behind the flywheel, between the flywheel and engine. Tap it in a few time with a hammer. DON'T pound it in just tap to create some pressure outward. Then with a metal hammer go around the flywheel tapping on the outside edge of the flywheel. Keeping moving the wood wedge around in quarters around the wheel. Usually the wheel will pop off when you have inserted the wedge in the second quarter. When I say POP OFF I am serious it usually scares me.
I have changed out quite a few flywheels on 7's and this way always works. Many friends have destroyed pullers trying.
Important: Read this page several times before starting. Make sure you replace as many small gaskets, bearings, etc as you can.

i installed my act clutch and r/b flywheel in my friends shop. i started about 10am and finished about 4pm. its not hard if u have a lift available. apply tread lock on the bolts that hold the counterweight to the the flywheel, also use a little on the flywheel nut. 3rd gens have a pull type clutch, u can try to snap the retaining ring from the inspection window to release the pressure plate, if this fails u will have to unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel one bolt at a time. besides saving a few hundred $$$, u get the satisfaction of doing the job right. use brake cleaner to clean the dust from the bell housing and the back of the engine. good luck
