As thouroghly discussed/concluded in the thread, if control air pressure is above 10 psi, solenoids valves may remain stuck, even if the solenoids get de-energized. FSM procedure may be aimed at identifying leaks only (I haven't checked the FSM). The recommended fix is to install a pressure relief device at the control air pressure chamber, that limits the pressure in it to 10 psi or less, even if boost is above it.

I have been running stock sequential components (with upgraded ecu) at 13-14 psi for 8 years with no issues. The only solenoid I had to replace was the double throttle. I broke the nipple about 6 years ago, and replaced it last year .

In my opinion, the only reason to go non sequential is because you cant figure out how (or are too lazy) to fix your sequential system.

Just a suggestion, though, email him before you pay. I bought mine last year, and had some trouble getting a hold of him for a while. He's respectable, but he does business overseas, so sometimes he's hard to reach.
I tried contacting him via email, and phone yesterday. Hopefully he returns my call. Also on that site it mentions they are selling the solenoids to a UK company.....

Pretty pricey by the time you convert that currency but I wonder if they can actually get a hold of these units....

I know the system is old and problematic but is there an after market for the rest of the components? I'm planning on going BNR stage 3 and would like to make the changes all at once.

Any suggestions for bullet proofing the sequential system?
Lets look at this by component type. The sequential control system is made up of:
1) pressure and vacuum tanks
2) vacuum hoses
3) check valves
4) solenoids
5) actuators
6) valves or doors within the piping/manifolds

There are good aftermarket replacements for 2, 3, 4. 6 is almost never a problem. 1 is easy to test and replace as required.

The solenoids are not easy to come by as aftermarket parts. IMHO, you will do very well using low mileage or new stock solenoids in an engine bay with reduced underhood temperatures and improved heat shielding. While the aftermarket solenoids are very durable, if you buy brand new ones from Mazda for just the turbo control locations you'll be the same or cheaper.

That leaves actuators as the weak point really. Good used parts are out there and can be tested with a Mityvac. But some folks have a hard-on for anything aftermarket. Pettit does sell some refurbished actuators (CCA notably) that are compelling and I have not tried them.
