i think most ppl load up to 4.5 - 5 k and dump it, not the best for the car, but it will get you going.

<< i get it up to 3k and then dump it >>

u str8 dump it? drop the clutch completely? dont ease of it at all? that's pretty crucial...

ill take ur word 4 it...cuz i know i have trouble launchin my FD....but ive never tried dumpin the clutch... launchin my FD is very tricky (2 me at least) compared to any other stick car ive driven

w/ the FD, i thought ur supposed to let it ride just a TINY bit then drop it...but like i said, i wouldn't know. it always gives me issues. sometimes is PERFECT..sometimes...well...no comment lol

with different setups, you will launch your car with different methods.

some setup benefits feathering clutch, some does better dumping it.

I take mine to 5 grand then just drop it. I have had a lot of practice and get damn near perfect launches. I have a stage 3 clutch with Kumho ecsta supra tires. I go pretty well with just that. I want better tires though.

Hmmm...I have bridgestone potenzas and if I just dump the clutch at 3k, the wheels spin all the way through first until I shift. I would think easing the clutch out would get a better result. My only mods are a downpipe and an intake, so I don't think I'm making all that much extra power over stock. So you guys that are dumping at 5k...what kind of spin do you get? Do you just spin all the way through first like I do?

does dumping the clutch possibly cause any noteworthy wear/damage to ur clutch/tranny? cuz id think it's much like downshifting w/o rev matching... ?

Like voodooracing said, it all depends on your tires, suspension setup, etc...

If you are at the drag strip, lowering the pressure of your rear tires will help.

If you are just "stop light racing", depending on your tires, rev up to 3000-3300 rpms and slip the clutch as your take off. You want some wheel spin to avoid wheel hop but not enough wheel spin that the car doesn't move forward or slides out of control. Once the tires grab traction, floor it.

That makes more sense, what kind of throttle do you think would give you the best result before you floor it? 3/4?

Getting the car from a dead stop to haul ***** is not easy on the car. A stock clutch on any car can wear out quick. Some cars can snap the rear axle. Everything is heavily stressed.

That's the tricky part. You'll already be about 2/3's or about 1/2 throttle holding the rpms up. Once you begin to slip the clutch in and your tires start spinning, you'll have to "feather" the gas to keep the car moving forward without spinning too much.

When I mean feather, I mean you'll just have to feel the car and give it more and/or less gas depending on how the tires are grabbing. Granted, if your tires are cold, you are going to spin more so you'll have to let the tires grab a little by backing off the gas and then getting back on it again. Once the tires are warmer, you might not have to back off the gas at all.

That's the part you just need to go to an empty parking lot and do some practicing/testing.

Hope that help, good luck!

I just drop it at 3k rpm's full throttle and no wheel hop no spin. It's just great. I've got HKS hiper dumper and michelin pilot sport 255/40/17 rear wheels.

I revved to 3k and dumped the clutch (no slipping) my first run at the dragstip. That resulted in a 2.7 60' time, which is just plain awful.

The next two times tried revving it to a little higher, which resulted in too much wheelspin. And a little lower (like 2500) and it bogged. It's a tricky thing getting the launch right.

But I think the the best way would be to slip the clutch from 3k or so, then hammer it once the tires get traction.

thanx guys...even tho ive read other threads bout this same topic..u guys r givin the details i need..good stuff

<< If I don't dump the clutch I smell my ACT Street/Strip something awful. >>

yes...ditto. hence why i hesitate to do either lol. it's a heavy duty clutch, so it better last a good long *** time...but nonetheless, that clutch lets me know the second my reaction time isn't dead on...

so im tryin 2 figure out, which one's worse.. dumping, or riding? lol

of course...when push comes 2 shove, and u bout to take some fool to school, who cares bout all that =P

Hehehe, when I have my micky ts on the car I rev it up to 7k and drop it.. damn near pulls the front tires off the ground.. btw.. I've only draged my car once and it pulled a 11.2 on my proxies. I dont like drag racing.. not very fun.. its more fun to get in some good road racing at sebring, leguna ect and watch those porsches and vipers eat ya up while im spooling but once i spool they lick my apex seals

Also... sorry for posting so much... but.. be careful doing drops and such.. wheel hop and even launching will break your differential.. thats a very expensive peice of equipment to replace..
