Good call on making sure to store it well.

You want to cover EVERYTHING with a light coat of oil of some kind. I use WD-40 for engine parts while I'm working on them, but I think there is a heavier oil you can get (called "fogging oil" I think) for longer term storage. But, WD-40 will probably work well.

What I would do -

- Pull the drain plug on the block and get ALL the coolant out of it.

- Get some WD-40, hose the whole outside down with it, get plenty into the coolant passages through the holes where the water pump housing bolts to, heater hose nipple, etc. Get PLENTY in there.

- Spray in through the intake ports, exhaust ports, and spark plug holes. Turn it over a few times, spray again, etc. Get plenty in there.

- Get a THICK bag or plastic sheet and wrap it around the block and seal it up. It should be air tight. You can get clear plastic painting tarps from Lowe's for cheap, you may have to cut it down some.

Do all that and it will be good to go for a long time.

I would probably put some very small air holes in the wrapped bag, as I stored an engine that way and it sweated due to not being able to flow air in/out of the plastic bag wrap.

Sweating = moisture = problems. Depends on the climate somewhat I guess. Be sure to check on the engine from time to time, dont just walk away and not come back.
