How difficult is it to wire an 93 fd?

Have a very dig problem went to the mazda plus and they checked the car and said that the wire harnesses are melted in the dash bored and in the front off the car.

So i was thinking can i do the work myself and how much would it cost to get used wires?

You will hate life if you try to do it yourself.

I'd just buy new harnesses.

Depending which wiring harnesses, that could be a pretty big headache. The engine harness isn't too bad, especially if the engine is out of the car.

if both harneses shorted and burned...I doubt that they will be the only items needing replacement.

...If your considering building your own wire harness and yet are unsure what's involved with simply replacing the wire harness....then I don't think that you should even consider doing the work yourself unless you're willing to fully enlighten yourself on electrical troubleshooting.

..not to say that you aren't capable...but you have to be pretty interested.or at least motivated..maybe somewhat inclined... I have a ball peen hammer in my electrical toolbox!

I dont know what you consider "difficult", but I just rewired my engine harness (bought a new one, and cut it apart for modification), while not at the level you are talking, my project was similar. It was not too difficult, once I pulled my head out of my *** and actually went through the wiring diagram. After that, it all made sense, and was fairly straight forward.

As for the dash harness...that would probably be much more time consuming...to the point where I would say that if you have no experience, you should invest some stocks in Tylenol.

Prices for the harnesses new are steep. I paid 780 (?) for my engine harness from Ray at Malloy, and that is probably the cheapest you will find it. If you buy a used one in decent condition, you will pay much less, but I wouldnt suggest that course.

BTW, I have little to no electrical experience, and I figured out how to do what I needed, such as it was.

...you bought a new engine harness and modified it....he is thinking of re-wiring a car where both main harnesses SHORTED AND BURNED!!! ...I wouldn't consider the 2 projects similar.

...if both the engine and under dash harness shorted and burned...what do you think the chances are that the ECU and cluster survived? ...last thing you want to do is give the guy the okay to Mickey Mouse things together and then have his air bag explode in his face while he's driving down the street.

..actually if he able to get it running he might be ok....Let's quiz him first ...based on the wiring diagram that comes with the PowerFC, which are the correct four wires to remove?

You have two options
Option 1: buy the harness
Option 2: buy gun, insert into mouth, pull the trigger
save yourself the headache

Yes i know i know i asked all the questions about how much can i get for it and stuff, yes its the same car so here it is but will take pics of the wires later.

By the way how much can i get for it? without the rims tho and engines workes good has turbos from the 99 rx7 has the best short shifter everyone who shifts say its the best shifter they have ever seen and felt, has full exhaust and lots of stuff on it.
The things are still missing from it are hood and seats but have them cant find seat brackets.
The problem with the car is wiring.

...are these pics from after wire harness shorted? ...first pic looks like front relay box is toasted...hard to tell how bad without high res pics. if the top of the front relay box did actually melt as it looks to have in pic...it must have shorted for quite a while...

if you took your time and really checked things over before finally hooking up the battery ...you could probably fix it for 500 bucks worth of used electrical parts.
....there's an underdash harness on ebay...45 bucks.

If that's exactly what the person from Mazda Plus told you, not your interpretation of it, then that person doesn't know enough about wiring to fix your problem. It's obvious that you don't know how to fix it either, so I'd recommend you either find someone who can (make a post in the West section, or start calling electricians from the yellow pages), or bend over and sell the car as-is.

If you've got enough time and money, you could buy and install a new wiring harness. Just hope that the problem wasn't due to a bad component such as a relay, fan motor, headlight motor, ignition switch, etc... If something besides the harness caused the problem, it could fry the new harness as well.

edit: this might or might not work, but have you tried calling your local automotive tech schools? It's possible that a UTI class would enjoy working on your real-world problem enough to do it for cheap or free if you're lucky.

Honestly man, not as much as you think. That perfect short shifter you mentioned adds maybe $100 to the value of the car, the full exhaust maybe $400. Those are cheap knockoff wheels and dont really add to the value of the car.

So it appears you have a high mileage car that needs paint, and I believe you mentioned in the past it has a salvage title. Add everything up and you'll be lucky to get $8k as-as.
