How did you reinforce your Power Plant Frame?

My 3rd PPF just cracked this morning. I've heard the cryogenic thing, but also welding plates to reinforce PPF.

What's the best way to prevent it from cracking?

And of course I'll buy another PPF...

Transmission and diff bracing are probably your best bet. Cryo treatment is more for parts that you are looking to reduce wear on which in also hardens the parts. In the case of the PPF I dont believe it would be a good Idea to harden it because it is always under torsional stress and after all it is only a thin sheetmetal part. The process of cryo treating can also create cracks in the object.

Paint it red and write "Mazdaspeed" on it?

Is it cracking in the same place every time? Personally I like Banzai's new transmission brace. I'm with Turk, if I had that problem I'd be looking at one of those first.

I made my own from Kevlar and had Wyle Laboratories test it to 5,000ft·lb tq.

I recently had my local welder "reinforce" my PPf about a week ago.

Basically what I had him do was weld all the "X" areas to the center just like one of the threads that Theorie pointed to. I also had him weld the plates together around the "ears" of the PPF. If you look closely, you will see the ends have 2 plates of steel that are just seem sealed and spot welded. I figure by welding the 2 plates together it will keep them from splitting and cracking the PPF.

Also, I have both the Banzai diff brace and tranny brace for even more security.

Good luck

Unfortunately, the pictures with the "X" don't work.

Tomorrow, I will fabricate a brace like that, do you think it'll help?

Thanks guys!
