This question pops up every so often. Quite simply, some people pay for the car entirely up front, others finance. And others end up getting their cars for free (like inheriting it from a relative). The answer doesn't get much more basic than that.
As for the fixing part,...that answer varies widely. Much like any other car,...some things get replaced immediately, others are maintenance/problem free for quite some time.
