How to adjust the handbrake?

Hey guys, i've looked at the FSM but couldn't really understand it... my handbrake doesn't grab very well and would like to adjust it so it grabs better? How do I do so? Do I adjust the brake line connected to the rear rotor area, or the handbrake itself inside the car? Thanks guys!

should be a tensioner, believe its under the car directly below the ebrake.

i highly recommend everyone do this!! for whoever didnt see my thread about a month ago. my e-brake tension slipped while my fd was cooling down and it went barreling 200ft down a hill into a tree. i had the e-brake pulled as far as it would go before i left it. now that it was adjusted it hold great...something so small can make quite a difference.

Easy, all you have to do is remove the black interior panel where the hand brake is located, and right on the side of the hand brake itself is the aduster screw ( warning, follow factory specs to how many clicks the hand brake should have. If its too tight, the brakes will drag. you dont even have to lift the car up, good luck!

Isn't that just the lever? I already did that! Thanks Ernesto! I'll take it for a drive and see if it made it grab tighter!

Have a friend work the lever and watch the arm at the calipers to make sure both are moving freely. And check your rear pads. Even half-worn will make some difference.

Put the car up on stands and using a wrench, channel locks or whatever, see if YOU can physically move the arms. They're spring loaded, so with some effort you should be able to move each arm and have it return on it's own. If they BOTH move normally, I would adjust the length of the cable as the others have mentioned and/or check my rear pads...probably replace if they're more than half worn. If the arms don't move, or don't return on they're own, the caliper has to be replaced.
