Hot Start Woes

My FD has started having issues with hot starts over the last two months. I've done a good bit of reading on it and am trying to consolidate in my mind what else to check.

The only engine mods I have is downpipe, catback and silicone vacuum hose replacement. Everything else is stock.

The symptom is that on a hot start.. the second I create engine load with the brake and power steering it will idel down to 5-600 and choke. It will restart with a little effort but will continue to idle badly until I run the engine for say 45-60 seconds and then all is well.

I started looking harder at the issue yesterday and sprayed carb cleaner from the throttle body, across the uim and around my intake. It all seems ok in that the idle did not race or change.

My 2nd thought is to pull off the UIM and look for a pinched vacuum line. My theory is that once the car gets hot, maybe a pinched line closes off once it looses pressure? That's just a guess but worth an inspection i figure.

What would you guys look over next? Injectors, ISC? Any suggestions? I want to start with the simple and work up to the apex seal failure as being a last resort.

I did a compression test prob a month ago and got numbers in the 80's to 90. Not the best but still hanging on.

All suggestions are appreciated!

80's is getting low and most likely your cause, do compression again. 80's is usually when people do a rebuild, don't want things to get to loose in there.

I would have to agree. You stated that the problem goes away after 45-60 sec. This would give time for engine parts to heat up and expand which creates a better seal. The reason you my not notice this during cold start up is due to the increased idle which later settles after the engine parts have come up to temperature. I would say nurse the engine as long as you can while you start considering rebuild options.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking the same but just wondering what else I might check that's easy. I was hoping to rebuild around Dec-Feb but maybe its coming sooner than I had hoped.
